Important note : As this census is almost 3 years old, there have been a few changes occurred in the numbers and names. But, as far as the competitive exam is concerned, you should follow the details of Census 2011 for your preparation as the Government of India hasn't released any official census report after this.

    A can do a piece of work in 7days of 9 hours each and B can do it in 6days of 7 hours each.how long will they take to do it,working together 42/5 hours a day?

    2(A+B+C) = 1/5 & then you would get A+B+C= 1/10 & 10 days as required no. of days.

    It's quite easy. Just equate the work done i.e (10x3)/120 & the remaining work to be done i.e (10+X) x 2/200.
    (10x3)/120 = (10+X) x 2/200


    where,
    3 = no. of days passed.
    120 = work done
    10= No. of laborers.
    (10 + x) = No. of labors required to complete the work.
    2 = no. of remaining days,
    &, 200 = remaining work.


    I hope this shall clear your doubt.

    let work require 126 units of work [ LCM of 7*9 & 6*7 ]
    then A works @ 2 units/hr
    B works @ 3 units/hr
    together they work @ 5 units/hr

    hrs needed if both work together = 126/5
    days needed working 42/5 hrs/day
    = [126/5] / [42/5]
    = 3 days
