National Affairs
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reached Nepal for Two day visit. This is the first bilateral trip by an Indian Prime Minister to Nepal in 17 years. Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala recieved him.
  • PM  announced $1 billion (NRs 10,000 crore) as concessional line of credit to Nepal and proposed a "HIT" formula for the development of the land-locked country endowed with rich hydropower potential.
  • One of the pioneers of Khari Boli (plain dialect) poetry Maithili Sharan Gupt's Birth anniversary today.

MOUs (Memorandum Of Understandings)
  • India - Nepal sign 3 MOUs today.
    • According to the first agreement India would provide Rs 65 million to procure and distribute iodised salt in the rural areas of Nepal. This would be the extension of the ongoing goiter control project being implemented under India's grant.
    • Second Agreement regarding the amendment of Terms of Reference (ToR) of the Pancheshwar Multipurpose Project on the Mahakali river.
    • Third Agreement  paves the way for cooperation between two national broadcasting television channels Nepal Television and Doordarshan.
  • Kerala Tourism and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to begin a historic cooperation between the state and the world's foremost cultural organization in promoting and protecting the ancient Spice Route heritage.
Business & Economy
  • Korean car major Hyundai is planning to launch Elite i20, which is set to replace the existing i20, on 11th August 2014. 
  • The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which is sitting on an enviable pile of gold deposits weighing 4,335 kilograms in various banks has added a whopping 1,800 kg under the State Bank of India’s (SBI) ‘Gold Deposit Scheme’ for a period of five years.
  • In a move that is likely to bring down prices of some key medicines, drug pricing regulator NPPA has fixed the price of 108 non-scheduled formulation packs of 50 anti-diabetes and cardiac medicines.
