International Affairs
  • Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be travelling to Kathmandu on August 3rd and 4th to have delegation level talks with his Nepali counterpart Sushil Koirala.
  • A joint statement issued by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and US Secretary of State John Kerry said that the UN representative in Jerusalem, Special Coordinator Robert Serry, has "received assurances" that all parties have agreed to an unconditional humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.   
  • U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. In an hour-long meeting, the two visiting Secretaries briefed Prime Minister on the India-U.S. Strategic Dialogue; conveyed that President Obama attached great priority to relations with India, both for bilateral cooperation and global partnership, and looks forward to a productive and fruitful Summit in September in Washington to set an ambitious new agenda to chart a new course in the relationship.

  • The West Bengal government is  planning to launch a Web portal on blood banks. With this, you can get complete detail from 58 state-run blood banks. West Bengal Health Services Director Biswaranjan Satpathy announced.
  • Around 16 per cent of the posts sanctioned by the government in various positions remained unfilled as on March 1, 2012 because of imposition of ban on creation of new posts, Parliament was informed Today.
  • The Supreme Court today expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of criminal justice system in India. The court further asked the Centre to come out with a proposal on the same within a month.
  • Government will rationalise subsidies to ensure that only those entitled are benefited and the subsidy bill will be one of the major tasks before the Expenditure Management Commission it intends to set up in the coming days. 
  • Underworld Don Abu Salem was convicted and awarded seven-year rigorous imprisonment by a special CBI court in Hyderabad in a fake passport case in 2013.
