National Affairs
  • Budget session of parliament will start tomorrow.
    • This will be the first budget by the Narendra Modi government
    • Government may hike taxes on Tobaco
    • Presentation of the Railway Budget is scheduled for 8th July 2014, the Economic Survey will be released the next day and Union Budget 2014-2015 will be presented on 10th July 2014.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the forerunner of the Bharatiya Janata Party, on his birth anniversary.
  • As India steps up pressure on Swiss authorities in its pursuit of alleged black money, banks in Switzerland say they follow strict rules and the requests from Indian authorities must be "properly justified".
  • With the aim of cleaning and rejuvenating the Ganga river, the Centre is organising a national level meet on July 7 where spiritual leaders, policy makers, NGOs and environmentalists will mull over the matter.
  • Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Sunday inaugurated 184 bridges, built by Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam (BRPNN) at a cost of Rs 549 crore, and laid down the foundation of 41 others across the state with a projected cost of about Rs 145 crore.

  • Nigeria’s military announced that it killed 53 fighters from the Islamist Boko Haram group when it repelled an attack on a military base in the northeastern Nigerian town of Damboa.
  • The Muslim religious heads across the gulf region have denounced the claims by ISIS Chief, Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi to set up a new Islamic Caliphate in areas of Iraq and Syria under his control.

  •  Novak Djokovic beats Roger Federer to win Wimbledon 2014
  • Australia's Aaron Finch seized his chance to shine among some of cricket's greatest players with a commanding innings of 181 not out as MCC beat the Rest of the World in the Lord's bicentenary match on Saturday.
  • Argentina reached the World Cup semi-finals for the first time in 24 years on Saturday when an early goal by Gonzalo Higuain and a strong defensive display proved enough to beat a disappointing Belgium side 1-0.
New Appointments
  • Sharat Chander of the Indian Information Service (IIS) has been appointed as Information Officer in Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
  • Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal was shifted to Mizoram
  • Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva given additional charge of Gujarat
  • Mizoram Governor Vakkom Purushothaman transferred & appointed as governor of Nagaland
