Commissioned Ranks of the Three Services (Army, Navy and Air Force)

Friends, in this post we shall discuss about the commissioned ranks in the three services Army, Navy and Air Force. Before going into details lets have a brief introduction of these three services. These three comes under the Indian Armed Forces, the military forces of the Republic India.
  • Indian Army :  This is the land-based branch and the largest component of the Indian Armed Forces. The President of India is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces. Head Quarters - New Delhi, India
  • Indian Navy : This is the Naval Branch of Indian Armed Forces. The President of India serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy. Head Quarters - New Delhi, India
  • Indian Air Force : This is the Air Arm of the Indian Air Force. The President of India serves as the ex-officio Commander-in-Chief of the IAF. Head Quarters - New Delhi, India
Following are the commissioned ranks of these three services. Each rank is shown opposite to its equivalent in the other services.

Note : The Field Marshal rank is mostly honorary. It does not currently exist in the army organizational structure. Two officers were conferred with this rank, are late Field Marshal Manekshaw and the late Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa.

  3. Dear Administrator,

    Correction-The ranks Pilot Officer, Acting Sub Lieutenant and Second Lieutenant has not been in use since long.

    Note-Marshal of Indian Air Force rank was bestowed upon Marshal of Indian Air Force Arjan Singh, Padma Vibhusan, DFC in 2002. He is the only living five star officer.

  5. it is general knowledge, which you should know... General Knowledge doesn't have a particular syllabus. so kindly acquire as much knowledge as you can. Don't ask silly questions.

  6. there is no particular syllabus for general knowledge, so if you really want to increase your general knowledge, acquire as much information as you can and stop asking silly questions.
