Friends, this is the 2nd part of our post on Mineral Resources of India, which was posted for upcoming SSC CGL 2014 exam. Manganese :

  • Distribution :
    • Orissa : Keonjhar, Kalhandi, talcher, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Sundaraghar
    • Bihar : Dehri
    • Madhya Pradesh : Jabalpur, Balaghat, Chindwara
    • Jharkhand : Singbhum
    • Karnataka : Bellary, Chitradurg, Tumkur, Shimoga, Belgam, Dharwad and North Canara
    • Maharashtra : Nagpur, Bhandara, Ratnagiri
    • Rajasthan : Baneswar, Udayapur
    • Andhra Pradesh : Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam
    • Gujarat : Panchmahal
  • Uses of Manganese :
    • It is used in the produciton of steel and alloys.
    • It is used in the produciton of bleaching powder and chemicals.
    • It is used in electrical, glass, leather and photography industries.
  • Important Point to Note : India is the largest producer in the world.

Iron Ore :

  • Distribution :
    • Bihar : Chandrapur, Jhuria
    • Jharkhand : Singhhum
    • Orissa : Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundaraghar
    • Chattisgarh : Raipur, Bastar, Durg
    • Karnataka : Bellary, Chikmaglur
    • Andhra Pradesh : Khammam
    • Maharashtra : Ratnagiri, Chand
    • Tamil Nadu : Salem
  • Uses of Iron Ore :
    • It is used in making steel
    • Defense weapons, agricultural tools are made
    • for the construction of buildings, bridges, rail tracks, cars, lorries, etc
    • it is the most useful ore
    • it brings foreign exchange
    • Industrialization depends

Copper :

  • Distribution : 
    • Jharkhand : Hazaribagh, Singbhum
    • Rajasthan : Jaipur, Alwar, Jhunjhuri
    • Andhra Pradesh : Guntur, Kurnool
    • Tamil Nadu : South Arcot
    • Karnataka : Hasan
    • Himachal Pradesh : Kangra
    • Madhya Pradesh : Balaghat
  • Uses of Copper :
    • Copper is used in electrical industries for making wires
    • It is used in making brass coins and utensils
    • Copper powder is used in some Ayurvedic medicines
  • Important Point to Note : India imports copper

Mica :

  • Distribution :
    • Jharkhand : Hazaribagh
    • Bihar : Monghyr, Gaya
    • Andhra Pradesh : Nellore
    • Rajasthan : Bhilwara, Udaipur and Jaipur
  • Uses of Mica :
    • It is used in electrical and electronic goods
    • It earns foreign exchange.
  • Important Point to Note :  India is the largest producer of Mica in the world

Gold :

  • Distribution :
    • Karnataka :  KOlar, Mysore and Raichur
    • Andhra Pradesh : Anantapur
    • Tamil Nadu : Coimbattore and Nilagiries
    • Kerala : Kozikode
    • Jharkhand : Singhubhum
  • Uses of Gold :
    • It serves gold reserves to obtain huge amount of loan from World Bank
    • It is used in the manufacture of Jewellery
    • Its powder is used in some Ayurvedic Medicines

Petroleum :

  • Distribution :
    • Assom : Digboi, Hugrijan, Naharkatiya, Silbasagar, Rudrasagar and Badarpur
    • Maharashtra : Bombay High
    • Gujarath : Ankaleswar, Navagaon, Dolka
    • Andhra Pradesh : Godavari basin
  • Uses of Petroleum :
    • Transportaion depends on petrol and petroleum products
    • The manufacture of some petrochemical products depends on petrol 
  • Important Point to Note : India imports petroleum
