International Affairs
  • U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday signed a bipartisan budget deal easing spending cuts and a defence authorisation bill that takes a step towards ultimate closure of Guantanamo.
  • The United States is sending Iraq dozens of missiles and surveillance drones to help combat a recent surge there in Al-Qaeda-backed violence, a State Department official announced.
  • Hundreds of supporters of Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) party briefly haltedtrucks and containers carrying supplies for the NATO troops in Afghanistan, in protest against the latest drone attack.

  • President PranabMukherjee inaugurated the 37th Indian Social Science Congress at Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh.
  • West Bengal transport department is all set to start helicopter services from Kolkata to Gangasagar and other parts of the state, transport minister Madan Mitra said on Friday.
