National Affairs
  • It's been one year since the spine-chilling incident of Nirbhaya gang-rape that stirred millions of souls, rousing the countrymen out of apathy forcing them to take to streets to protest.
  • Finance minister P Chidambaram anounced  that Rs 1,000 crore Nirbhaya Fund will be used to introduce SoS alert systems in trains, GPS & CCTVs in public transport.
  • Author Vikram Seth's new novel " A Suitable Girl", a much awaited sequel to his 1993 critically acclaimed fiction "A Suitable Boy" is set to hit bookstands in 2016, according to new publishers Aleph Book Company.

  • A nine-metre bronze statue of Nelson Mandela was unveiled, a day after the anti-apartheid icon was laid to rest in his childhood village of Qunu.
  • Turkey and the European Union have signed agreements starting talks for a possible deal that would lift visa restrictions for Turkish citizens traveling to Europe.
  • The United Nations said that it needs almost USD 13 billion to meet some of the world's biggest humanitarian needs in 2014, and almost half of that amount would go to Syria and its surrounding region.
  • President Barack Obama on Monday ruled that a regional grouping of Gulf Arab states should be allowed to buy certain US defense articles, deepening ties with a grouping wary of Iran's regional influence.

  • Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has cautioned against forged social media profiles floated in the name of ISRO or Department of Space.
  • Nokia Lumia 1520 with 6.0-inch full-HD display launched in India at Rs. 46,999.

Business and Economy
  • India's headline inflation surged past analysts' expectations to a 14-month high of 7.52% in November, government data showed on Monday, after food prices rose at the fastest clip since June 2010.

Awards and Honors
  • Amitabh Bachchan was honoured at the Rashtrapati Bhavan as one of NDTV's 25 greatest living global Indians. With him on stage were leading scientists, sportsmen, writers, musicians, social activists and actors. Like him, all living legends.

  • World cup gold medalist Heena Sidhu was in third position in the precision round of 25 meter women pistol event, which was topped by Commonwealth Games gold medallist Anisa Sayyed at the 57th National Shooting Championship at new Delhi on Monday.
