International Affairs

• Afghanistan President Karzai met Pakistan President Nawaj Sharif for the first time since his election in May in a bid to overcome a series of public rows that have hampered efforts to end 12 years of war in Afghanistan.

• SEBI has decided to increase the penalty for those running unauthorised Collective Investment Schemes, as the existing mechanism has not proved to be sufficient to deter such illegal mobilisation of money.
• US-based pharmaceutical firm Mylan Inc’s Rs 5,168 crore proposal to acquire Indian generic drugs company Agila Specialties was cleared by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) today.
• State Bank of India on Tuesday said it may merge one of the five associate banks in the current fiscal.
