• Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today assured the Chinese leadership that his country would crackdown on an Islamic militant group carrying out a separatist movement in China's restive Xinjiang province.
• Attacks killed eight people in town squares in Iraq on Friday, including seven who died when a suicide bomber dressed in army uniform set off his car rigged with explosives just before midday prayers.
• Seeking to maintain peace and stability on the line of actual control in the backdrop of the PLA incursion in Ladakh, India and China on Friday agreed that "strategic communication" is required for building mutual trust even as they agreed to resume joint army exercises.

• Despite widespread poverty in the country, India is on track to meet the United Nations' Millennium Development Goal (MDG) of poverty reduction by 2015, a UN report said.
