International Affairs

  • Bangladesh's cabinet has approved a draft law for development of Hindu religious properties and to protect them from encroachment and land grab, a move welcomed by the country's minority community.
  • Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday Moscow had not yet delivered its sophisticated S-300 missiles to the Damascus regime despite hints from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad that such shipments had already been made.
  • More than 65 countries signed the landmark treaty regulating the multibillion-dollar global arms trade Monday and the United States announced it will sign soon, giving a strong kickoff to the first major international campaign to stem the illicit trade in weapons that fuel conflicts and extremists.
  • Defence Minister AKAntony to arrive in Australia today to strengthen #India's defence ties with countries in Asia Pacific region.
  • China today said all its 15 operational nuclear power reactors are safe and enhanced efforts are being made to ensure their safety. The Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) in a report on the status of the reactors said enhanced efforts were made regarding nuclear safety and radiation protection.

National Affairs

  • Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said that the state government is formulating an ambitious plan for development of Faridabad. Hooda stated this at a function organised by Faridabad Industries Association (FIA) in Faridabad, said an official release. 
  • Bollywood actress Jiah Khan of Nishabd fame was found hanging from the ceiling at her Juhu residence on late Monday night.
  • Bihar government has set a target to enhance the skills of one crore people in various works in the next five years so as to lift them above the poverty line, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said today.
  • National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) today came down heavily on the Meghalaya Labour department for its failure in handling the issue of child labour in the state and directed it to conduct a comprehensive child labour survey in all districts of the state to draw plans to eliminate the problem.
  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today launched the annual State Credit Plan with a total outlay of Rs 1.33 lakh crore.
  • Finance Minister P Chidambaram: No decision on promulgating an Ordinance for food security, not brought up before Cabinet today.
  • Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit appointed 3-time MLA Parlad Singh Sawhney as her Parliamentary Secretary.
  • Pig disease virus which causes reproductive failure in breeding stock and respiratory tract illness detected in India for first time.
  • Haryana Agriculture department: In view of declining water table, cultivation of 'Sathi' variety of paddy banned up to June 15.
  • Karnataka government on Tuesday said the ban imposed on gutka would stay, rejecting the demand of the opposition BJP which argued that the move would hit arecanut growers in the State.

Sports

  • Meghalaya will host a golf tournament later this year with the theme 'Golf for Health', Health Minister A L Hek said today.The golf tournament will be jointly organised by the Union Health Ministry and the state health department at the picturesque Shillong golf course.
