Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "One China check for Donald Trump"

  • Softening - a lack of increase or a reduction in the level of something
  • Administration - the arrangements and tasks needed to control the operation of a plan or organization
  • Pursue - to follow a course of activity
  • Radically - completely
  • Cornerstone - something of great importance that everything else depends on
  • Congratulatory - offering congratulations
  • Infuriating - extremely annoying
  • Declined - to refuse
  • Endorse - o make a public statement of your approval or support for something or someone
  • Triggering - causing someone to feel upset and frightened because they are made to remember something bad that has happened in the past
  • Speculation -  the activity of guessing possible answers to a question without having enough information to be certain
  • Bargaining - to try to make someone agree to give you something that is better for you, such as a better price or better working conditions
  • Conversation - a  talk between two or more people
  • Ever since - during the whole period of time since something happened
  • Bilateral - involving two groups or countries
  • Measure - a way of achieving something
  • Ease - to make or become less severe, difficult, unpleasant, painful, etc
  • Belated - coming later than expected
  • Reality check - an occasion that causes you to consider the facts about a situation and not your opinions, ideas, or beliefs
  • Bedrock - the main principles on which something is based
  • Parlance - a group of words or style of speaking used by a particular group of people
  • Diplomatic - acting in a way that does not cause offence
  • Escalate - to make something become greater or more serious
  • Conflict - an active disagreement between people with opposing opinions or principles
  • Dispute - an argument or disagreement, especially an official one
  • Equilibrium - a state of balance

  • Barrier - anything that prevents progress or makes it difficult for someone to achieve something
  • Auction - a usually public sale of goods or property, where people make higher and higher bids (= offers of money) for each thing, until the thing is sold to the person who will pay most
  • Photovoltaic - able to produce electricity from light, or relating to the process of doing this
  • Renewable energy - renewable energy  replace itself by natural processes, so that it is never completely used up
  • Factoring - the process by which a number or variable is written as a product of two or more terms (= numbers or symbols)
  • Annual - happening once every year
  • Incentive - something that encourages a person to do something
  • Arguably - used when stating an opinion or belief that you think can be shown to be true
  • Rapid - fast or sudden
  • Scaling-up - to increase the size, amount, or importance of something, usually an organization or process
  • Vital - necessary for the success or continued existence of something; extremely important
  • Monitor - to watch and check a situation carefully for a period of time in order to discover something about it
  • Transformational - able to produce a big change or improvement in a situation
  • Accelerating - to happen or make something happen sooner or faster
  • Intent - the intention to do something
  • Far from - not at all
  • Attainable - possible to achieve
  • Fell short - to fail to reach an amount or standard that was expected or hoped for, causing disappointment
  • Glaring - used to say that something bad is very obvious
  • Lacuna - an empty space where something is missing
  • Residential - relating to where you live or have lived
  • Commercial - related to buying and selling things
  • Mandatory - something that is mandatory must be done, or is demanded by law
  • Robust - strong and successful
  • Periodic - happening repeatedly over a period of time
  • Significant - important or noticeable
  • Subsidy - money given as part of the cost of something, to help or encourage it to happen
  • Scenario - a description of possible actions or events in the future
  • Emission - he act of sending out gas, heat, light, etc
  • Tap - to get or make use of something
