Topic 1 : "States of the Congress"

  • Ordinarily - in a normal way
  • Mild - not so serious (gentle and calm)
  • Flutter - slightly uncomfortable
  • Reputation - the beliefs or opinions that are generally held about someone or something
  • Under a cloud - to not be trusted or popular because people think you have done something bad
  • Declined -  decreased (became smaller)
  • Meanwhile - while something else is happening
  • Frittered - to waste money, time, or something
  • Inordinate - much more than usual or expected
  • Defend - to protect someone against attack or criticism
  • String - series (a set of objects joined together)
  • Controversy - a lot of disagreement or argument about something
  • Regeneration - to improve a place or system, especially by making it more active or successful
  • Crisis - a time of great disagreement, confusion, or suffering
  • Defection - the act of leaving a country, political party, etc. to go to another one
  • Entrenched - strongly established and difficult to change
  • Embed - attach to a group / party
  • Hasten - be quick to do something
  • Succession - a process in which someone automatically takes an official position or job after someone else
  • Grapples - to fight, especially in order to win something
  • Peculiar - strange
  • Rectifying - correcting
  • Accountability - responsibility
  • Coherence - the situation when the parts of something fit together (logical interconnection)
  • Reassessing - to think again about something
  • Periodic - happening repeatedly over a period of time
  • Unsolicited - not asked for
  • Empower - give (someone) the authority or power to do something
  • Freer hand - a hand that make you free
  • Borne - carried or moved by a particular thing
  • Cedes - give up power / authority
  • Turfed - force (someone) to leave somewhere
  • Obligation - something that you must do
  • Conglomerate - consisting a number of different parts that are grouped together
  • Satraps - local rulers
  • Connect the dots - bringing together information from different places
  • Align - arrange
  • Reform - make changes in something, in order to improve it

Topic 2 : "A cautionary note"

  • Cautionary - serving as a warning
  • Opted for something - chose something
  • Citing - refer to something
  • Uncertainty - a situation in which something is not known
  • Trajectory - the path followed by an object
  • Inflation - continuous increase in prices
  • Bias - the action of supporting or opposing a particular person or thing in an unfair way
  • Accommodative - willing to adjust to differences in order to obtain agreement
  • Monetary policy - actions taken by a government to control the amount of money in an economy and how easily available it is (for example by changing the interest rate)
  • On the table - being discussed or considered
  • Various - many different
  • Domestic - relating to a person's own country
  • Pan out - to develop in a particular way
  • Watchfulness - paying careful attention and ready to deal with problems
  • Notwithstanding - although / in spite of something
  • Prospect - the possibility of some future event occurring
  • Disinflationary - a situation in which a country's prices go down, or do not go up as quickly as before
  • Rapid - happening in a short time or at a great rate
  • Acceleration - increase in speed or rate
  • Pulses - seeds such as beans or peas that are cooked and eaten
  • Edible - suitable or safe for eating
  • Commodities - raw materials or primary agricultural products that can be bought and sold
  • Crude oil - oil from underground that has not yet been made into other products
  • Impact - effect or influence
  • Marginally - very small in amount (slightly)
  • Decline - decrease
  • Elephant in the room - if you say there is an elephant in the room, you mean that there is a problem or difficult situation that people do not want to talk about
  • Anticipated - expected / predicted
  • Extent - the degree to which something happens or is likely to happen
  • Fan - to encourage bad emotions or behaviour to get worse
  • Payout - a large amount of money that is paid to someone
  • Ultimately - finally / in the end
  • Sustaining - strengthening or supporting
  • Momentum - the force that keeps an object moving or keeps an event developing after it has started
  • Uneven - not regular / equal
  • Traction - the fact of an idea, product, etc. becoming popular or being accepted
  • Floundering - to experience great difficulties or be completely unable to decide what to do next
  • Weighed down - to make somebody feel worried and unhappy because of problems, responsibilities, and duties
  • Slowdown - a decline in economic activity
  • Turmoil - a state of great disturbance, confusion
  • Adequate - satisfactory or acceptable in quality or quantity
  • Weather - to deal successfully with a difficult situation or a problem
  • Volatility - sudden change
  • Emerge - to appear by coming out of something
  • Green shoots - signs of growth or renewal (especially of economic recovery)
  • Cargo - goods carried on a ship
  • Upturn - an improvement or a change to a higher level or value (especially in economics)
  • Trigger - to cause something to start
  • Revival - an improvement in the condition
  • Hinge - attach or join
  • Bolster - support or strengthen
