International Affairs
  • Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid arrived in India on a six-day official visit, during which he will hold talks with Indian leadership.
    • Hamid's visit comes in the backdrop of India making efforts to go ahead with Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) with Bangladesh.
    • It is the first visit by a ceremonial head of Bangladesh to India and is the second head of state to stay at renovated guest wing of the Rashtrapati Bhawan since the King of Bhutan in January 2013.
National Affairs
  • Goa Liberation Day was observed today (19th December 2014)
    • On this day in 1961 Goa finally became a part of India from Portuguese rule.
  • Nation paid tributes to Ram Prasad Bismil & Ashfaqulla Khan, remembering the sacrifices of these revolutionaries.
    • These both were hanged on 19th December 1927 by British rulers during Kakori Revolution (Kakori Conspiracy)
Business & Economy
  • India ranks 93rd out of 146 in Forbes list of best nations for business.
    • Denmark topped Forbes' 9th annual ranking of the Best Countries for Business, followed by Hong Kong, New Zealand, Ireland and Sweden.
  • India's economy is likely to grow at around 5.5 percent in the current fiscal year, the finance ministry said in mid-year review tabled in parliament Friday.
    • It projected that a 7-8 percent economic growth was reachable in the coming years and said inflation has fallen dramatically, while declining oil prices will help in containing the current account deficit (CAD) at around 2 percent of GDP.
Science & Technology
  • India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully tested an indigenously built 1000 kg glide bomb.
    • The bomb had successfully hit a target 100 km away in the Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast.
Deaths
  • Veteran Gandhian & freedom fighter Chunibhai Vaidya passed away. He was 97.
    • He began his life in activism with freedom struggle.
    • He also actively participated in Vinoba Bhave’s Bhoodan Movement.
