International Current Affairs
  • President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga arrived in India today for a 5-day State Visit.
    • This is the 1st visit by a Mongolian President to India in last 10 years. 
    • During this visit, Battulga is expected to meet President Ram Nath Kovind and PM Narendra Modi tomorrow.  
  • Days after a face-off between Indian and Chinese forces in Ladakh sector, Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh has presided over a high-altitude warfare military exercise in Eastern Ladakh
    • Lieutenant General Singh oversaw the integrated exercise of all arms in super high altitude area and complimented all ranks for an outstanding display of warfighting capability under challenging conditions.
National Current Affairs
  • Uttarakhand government has made Sanskrit language compulsory in all government and private schools from classes 3 to 8. 
  • Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved initiating the work of writing the history of the country's borders.
    • The work will cover various aspects of borders including tracing its making and unmaking, shifting of borders, role of security forces and borderland people.
    • The project is expected to be completed within two years, it added.
  • The state government of Telangana has decided to declare 2020 as Year of Artificial Intelligence and thus will be organising various activities related to emerging technology throughout the year. 
    • This comes in the backdrop of emerging talent pool as well as renewed focus by industry and other ecosystem players on AI space in last 4-5 years.
  • A National Seminar on ‘Emerging Trends in Public Architecture’ was held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. 
    • The seminar was organized by Central Public Works Department as part of Nationwide Awareness Campaign during ongoing ‘Construction Technology Year’. 
    • Note : In a bid to increase the use of modern technologies in the construction sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that April 2019-March 2020 would be taken up as the ‘Year of Construction Technology.

  • Rajnath Singh today became the 1st Defence Minister of India to fly in the indigenously-built Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas from the HAL airport in Bengaluru. 
Science & Technology
  • NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter failed to capture images of Chandrayaan-2's Vikram lander after it passed over its landing site.
    • "The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera acquired images around the targeted landing site, but the exact location of the lander wasn't known so the lander may not be in the camera field of view," NASA announced.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced that the state-run banks along with NBFCs will hold meetings in shamianas at public places to lend to retail customers. 
    • The meetings will take place till September 29 in 200 districts and from October 10-15 in another 200 districts. 
    • The banks have been told to bring five fresh customers for loans for every existing customer.
  • Union Cabinet has approved payment of Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 78 days wages to eligible non-gazetted railway employees for Financial Year (FY) 2018-19. 
    • The eligible non-gazetted railway employees for payment of PLB exclude Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) personnel.

  • Bollywood Actor Ranveer Singh was named Best Actor for 'Padmaavat', while Alia Bhatt received the Best Actress award for 'Raazi' at the 20th IIFA Awards held in Mumbai.
    • Hindi-language spy thriller film 'Raazi' directed by Meghna Gulzar, was named Best Picture. Starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, the film is about a Kashmiri spy married to a Pakistan man during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. 
    • Note : This was the first time IIFA Awards were held in India.
  • Super 30 Founder and mathematician Anand Kumar has been felicitated with Education Excellence Award 2019 by non-profit organisation Foundation For Excellence in US's California.

  • The government has appointed Air Marshal R K S Bhadauria as the next Chief of Air Staff. 
    • He is going to replace Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa
  • The Government has cleared the appointments of 4 new judges to the Supreme Court.They are :
      • Krishna Murari (Haryana High Court Chief Justice)
      • V. Ramasubramanian (Himachal Pradesh High Court Chief Justice)
      • S Ravindra Bhat (Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice)
      • Hrishikesh Roy (Kerala High Court Chief Justice)
    • Note : With the appointment, the judges’ strength in apedx court is now 34.
  • US President Donald Trump has named Robert C O'Brien as the US' new National Security Adviser (NSA). O
Sports Current Affairs
  • India captain Virat Kohli has become the highest run-scorer in T20I cricket, achieving the feat in the second T20I against South Africa yesterday. F
  • Vinesh Phogat, who became the 1st Indian wrestler to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, clinched bronze in the 53-kg category in the World Wrestling Championships.
