  • Polity - a society that is organized in a political way and that has its own form of government
  • Foster - to help something to develop over a period of time
  • Civic - relating to a town or city, especially to its government and public activities
  • Resident - someone who lives in a particular place
  • Arson - the illegal use of fire to destroy a house, building, or property
  • De-escalate - reduce the intensity of (a conflict or potentially violent situation)
  • Despite - used for saying that something happens even though something else might have prevented it

  • Indigenous - indigenous people lived in a place for a very long time before other people came to live there
  • Vociferous - someone who is vociferous expresses their opinion loudly and with force
  • Overblown - something that is overblown is made to seem more important, exciting, or impressive than it really is
  • Ensure - to make certain that something happens or is done
  • Opposition - strong disagreement with a plan or policy, especially when this is shown in active attempts to prevent something
  • Ethnic - relating to a group of people who have the same culture and traditions
  • Longstanding - having existed for a long time
  • Migration - the process by which people or animals migrate to another place or country
  • Eerie - strange and mysterious, and sometimes frightening

  • Moreover - used for introducing an additional and important fact that supports or emphasizes what you have just said
  • Accountability - a situation in which people know who is responsible for something and can ask them to explain its state or quality
