International Current Affairs
- The United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities is being observed today.
- The day is an annual event promoted by the United Nations since 1992.
- The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.
- Theme of IDPD 2018 : “Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”.
- Qatar is going to withdraw from the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in January after nearly 60 years.
- The decision to withdraw from OPEC came after Qatar reviewed ways to enhance its role internationally and plan its long-term strategy.
- Note : Qatar is one of OPEC's smallest producers but the world's largest liquefied natural gas exporter.
- About OPEC :
- India and US Airforces began their 12-day joint exercise “Ex Cope India-2018” in West Bengal.
- It is fourth edition in series of bilateral joint exercise held by Air Forces of two nations conducted in India.
- This year for first time exercise will be held at two Air Force bases in West Bengal’s Kalaikunda and Panagarh.
- Fortnight-long (Two weeks) UN Climate Summit begins in Poland.
- Delegates from nearly 200 nations to discuss ways to tackle global warming in the summit.

- At the time of his hanging, he was 18 years, 8 months 8 days old.

- Since 1949, December 7 is observed as the Armed Forces Flag Day to honour the martyrs and the men in uniform who valiantly fought on the borders to safeguard the country’s honour.

Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- Indian banking and financial services company HDFC Bank has withdrawn its Mobile app from Google Play Store and Apple App Store after users complained of being unable to access it.
- The mobile app had been revamped and launched earlier this week with new interface and features.
- The bank is yet to issue an update regarding when the new version will be made available for users.
- India's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) has offered for sale three of its bad loan accounts to recover dues worth ₹2,111 crore.
- The accounts, which belong to Sona Alloys, MCL Global Steel and Jayaswal Neco Industries, will be put up at an e-auction on December 13.
- Note : SBI recently auctioned 11 bad loan accounts with dues worth ₹1,019 crore.
- Cross-platform messaging and Voice over IP (VoIP) service WhatsApp is seeking a formal approval of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to expand its payment services to all of its users in India.
- WhatsApp’s partner banks have also submitted a request for formal approval.
Science & Technology
- 'Train 18', India's first engineless train today breached the 180 kmph speed limit during a test run.
- The major trials are over and Train 18 is expected to commence its commercial run from January 2019.
New Appointments
- State-owned Bank of Maharashtra today appointed A S Rajeev as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO).
- He previously served as the Executive Director of Indian Bank and had also been the CFO of Vijaya Bank.
- He will hold the position for a period of three years or till further orders, whichever is earlier.
Sports Current Affairs
- India's Lakshya Sen won the the Men's Singles title at the Tata Open India International Challenge 2018 by defeating Kunlavut Vitidsarn (Thailand) in just 35 minutes.
- 19-year-old Ashmita Chaliha defeated eighth seed Vrushali Gummadi in finals to win the Women's Singles title of Tata Open India International Challenge 2018.
- This is her 2nd title in two weeks (On November 19, She won the Dubai International Challenge).
