International Current Affairs
  • The annual Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) is being held at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
    • The 4-day event, which was started today, is one of the world’s largest oil and gas exhibitions.
    • It will host more than 10,000 delegates and 2,200 exhibiting firms, including around 40 national oil companies.
    • Energy chiefs and ministers of various countries are attending the conference. 
    • India is being represented by : Dharmendra Pradhan (Minister of Petroleum & Natural Ga) 
    • On the sidelines of the meeting, he held a crucial meeting with Saudi Energy Minister Khalid Al Falih and discussed prevailing global oil market.
  • The 3rd edition of the Singapore Fintech Festival started today. 
    • This year’s event promises to be the biggest fintech event in the world to date.
    • This year's festival will include over 250 speakers, 450 exhibitors, 16 international pavilions and close to 40,000 participants expected.
    • The Conference will focus on 9 key themes across 70 sessions. They are :
      1. AI in finance
      2. ASEAN fintech opportunities
      3. Cyber-security
      4. Techrisk and regtech
      5. Financial inclusion
      6. Future of banking
      7. Future of money
      8. Global investor summit
      9. Insurtech and market infrastructure
  • Newly appointed Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa ended his five-decade-long association with Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and joined newly-formed Sri Lanka People’s Party (SLPP). 
National Current Affairs
  • Today is Public Service Broadcasting Day.
    • People observe this day in the memory of the first and only address by Mahatma Gandhi on All India Radio (AIR) on November 12 in 1947.
  • Army Chief Gen. Bipin Rawat today announced that Indian Army is observing the year 2018 as the Year of  the Disabled Soldier
    • The army has dedicated this year to the welfare of Disabled Soldiers who have been disabled in the line of duty, while serving the Nation.  
  • The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for areas in coastal Tamil Nadu as Cyclone Gaja, a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal, is set to make landfall on Thursday, November 15.

Deaths
  • Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Ananth Kumar (59) passed away.
    • The Parliamentary Affairs, and Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister, won his first election in the 1996 parliamentary polls from South Bangalore Lok Sabha seat, and never lost this seat thereafter. 
    • He was the youngest Cabinet minister at 39 in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee cabinet in 1998. 
    • Kumar had joined the BJP in 1987 and was a six-time parliamentarian.
Science & Technology
  • Indian Army today inducted 3 major globally combat proven artillery gun systems at Deolali Field Firing Range in Maharashtra. 
    • They are :
      • M777 A2 Ultra Light Howitzers (ULH)
      • K-9 Vajra-tracked self-propelled guns
      • Composite Gun Towing Vehicle
    • Important Points to Note :
      • These are 1st artillery gun systems to be inducted by Indian Army in three decades. 
      • Last inducted was Bofors artillery gun system procured from Sweden in early 1980s.
  • The 2nd edition of was International Symposium to Promote Innovation & Research in Energy Efficiency (INSPIRE 2018) launched in New Delhi. 
    • It was jointly organised by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and World Bank
    • The three-day symposium focused on enhancing grid management, e-Mobility, financial instruments and technologies for energy efficiency in India. 
  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has invited international proposals for scientific payloads for its 2nd interplanetary mission to Venus in mid-2023.
    • India will send 12 scientific payloads aboard the satellite, including a thermal camera, mass spectrometer and cloud monitoring camera. 
    • The final spacecraft is likely to have a payload capacity of close to 100 kg.
  • The Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities (GITC) 2018 was recently held in New Delhi.
    • It was co-hosted by Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Korea and its organising partners namely Rehabilitation International Korea and LG Group.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • To promote efficient energy usage in India, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is going to provide US $13 million loan to Energy Efficiency Services (EESL)
    • It will be provided by Global Environment Facility (GEF) as part of US $200 million ADB-financed Demand-Side Energy Efficiency Sector Project.
Awards & Honors
  • The restoration of an aristocratic house project from partial ruin state in Ladakh undertaken by LAMO (Ladakh Arts and Media Organisation) has won 2018 UNESCO Asia-Pacific award for Cultural Heritage conservation in Award of Distinction category. 
    • LAMO is public charitable trust established to articulate an alternative vision for the arts and media in Ladakh.
MOUs & Agreements
  • India and Morocco today signed an agreement to help each other in criminal matters and provide legal assistance wherever required.
    • The agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters was signed by Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju and Mohamed Aujjar, the minister of justice, Kingdom of Morocco.
  • India signed an MoU with ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) for storage of crude oil at Padur in Karnataka.
    • This MoU signed in presence of Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Sultan Al Jabar, MoS and CEO of ADNOC.
Sports Current Affairs
  • India defeated Windies by 6 wickets on the last ball in the final T20I at Chennai to register a 3-0 series whitewash.
    • Rohit Sharma, who led India to a 3-0 T20I series whitewash against Sri Lanka in 2017, became the 1st Indian captain to achieve two T20I series whitewashes.
