The Norwegian Nobel Committee today announced the winners of Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2018.The Congolese gynaecologist, Denis Mukwege, who has treated thousands of rape victims, and Nadia Murad, the Iraqi Yazidi, who was sold into sex slavery by Isis, have been jointly awarded the 2018 Nobel peace prize. They are going to be honored with this prestigious award for their "efforts to end the use of sexual voilence as a weapon of warfare".

They have worked through grave risks to their own lives to help survivors and bring their stories to the world. “They have both put their own personal security at risk by courageously combatting war crimes and securing justice for victims.” The Nobel Committee said.

About the Nobel Peace Prize 2018 Winners :

Dr. Mukwege is 63 years old. He works in one of the most traumatized places on the planet, where villagers have fallen prey to militias, bandits, government soldiers and foreign armies: the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

In a bare hospital in the hills above Bukavu, where for years there was little electricity or enough anesthetic, he performed surgery on countless women. He campaigned relentlessly to bring attention to their plight, even after nearly being assassinated a few years ago.

Ms Murad is 25 years old. She endured three months as a sex slave at the hands of Islamic State (IS) militants. She was bought and sold several times and subjected to sexual and physical abuse during her captivity.

She became an activist for the Yazidi people after escaping IS in November 2014, campaigning to help put an end to human trafficking and calling on the world to take a tougher line on rape as a weapon of war.
