- Inflation - an economic process in which prices increase so that money becomes less valuable

- Deflator - a figure that is used to change current prices or wages so that they can be compared to past prices or wages, by removing the effect of inflation

- Crude oil - oil that is still in its natural state and has not yet been refined for use by chemical processes

- Fan - to encourage bad emotions or behaviour to get worse
- Basis-point - used in relation to interest rates to mean one-hundredth of one percent
- Rapidly - happening, moving, or acting quickly
- Accelerate - to happen or make something happen at a faster rate
- Duo - a pair
- Pace - the speed at which something happens or is done
- Steep - a steep increase or fall in something is sudden and very big
- Appreciable - enough to be noticed or considered important
- Far from - used for saying that the real situation is the opposite of what you mention
- Reassuring - making you feel less worried
- Constituent - one of the parts that form something when they combine
- Alloy - a metal that is made by combining two or more metals
- Diverse - very different from each other
- Perspective - a sensible way of judging how good, bad, important etc something is in comparison with other things
- Unfavourable - an unfavourable situation or set of conditions is one that involves difficult problems and makes success harder to achieve
- Can ill afford (to do) something - used for saying that someone should definitely not do something because it will cause problems
- Vigil - a quiet political protest held at night
- Crop - a plant grown for food, usually on a farm
- Uncertainty - a nervous feeling that you have because you think bad things might happen
- Spatial - relating to the size, shape, and position of things, and the relation of objects to each other in space
- Impact - an effect, or an influence
- Monsoon - a period of heavy rain in India and Southeast Asia
- Sustained - continuing at the same level or rate for a long time
- Potentially - possibly true in the future, but not true now
- Undermine - to make something or someone become gradually less effective, confident, or successful

- Ruthless - willing to make other people suffer so that you can achieve your aims
- Untouchable - too powerful to be punished or controlled
- Dethrone - to defeat a very successful sports player and replace them as champion
- Outlast - to last longer, or to continue to be successful for longer, than someone or something else
- Serb - someone from Serbia
- Renaissance - new interest in something that makes it popular again
- Elbow - the part in the middle of your arm, where it bends
- Injury - physical damage done to a person or a part of their body
- Underwent - to experience something, especially something that is unpleasant but necessary
- Significantly - by a large amount, or in a way that is easily noticeable
- Slump - to be suddenly reduced to a much lower level
- Elastic - able or likely to be changed
- Slather - to put a lot of a soft thick substance on a surface, or to cover something with such a substance
- Fleet-footed - able to move quickly and easily
- Top-spin - the way that a ball spins forwards as it quickly flies through the air after someone has thrown or hit it in a particular way
- Abbreviated - shorter because some parts have been removed
- Eyesore - something that is ugly or unpleasant to look at
- Contender - someone who competes with other people for a prize or job
- Epic - extremely good
- Consequence - a result or effect of something
- Elite - the best or most skilful people in a group
- Write off - to decide that someone or something will not succeed and so to stop giving them your attention and energy
- Exaggerated - describing something in a way that makes it seem better, worse, larger, more important etc than it really is
