  • Transmission - the act of sending or giving something
  • Inefficient - not organized, skilled, or able to work in a satisfactory way
  • Foot the bill - to pay a bill
  • Inefficiency - a situation in which someone or something fails to use resources such as time, materials, or labour in an effective way
  • Lending rate - a percentage that a bank charges a customer who borrows money
  • Statement of intent - a formal or official statement that you intend to do something
  • Base rate - the rate of interest that banks use to calculate how much interest to charge on money they lend to their customers
  • Marginal - very small
  • Regime - a system of rules that control something
  • Harmonise - to make laws or policies similar to those of a different country, organization etc
  • Methodology - the methods and principles used for doing a particular kind of work, especially scientific or academic research
  • Determine - controlling your decision to do something
  • Benchmark - an amount, level, standard etc that you can use for judging how good or bad other things are
  • MCLR - (Marginal Cost of funds based Lending rate) the minimum interest rate of a bank below which it cannot lend
  • Significant - very large or noticeable
  • Equate - to consider something to be the same as something else
  • Assessment - calculation of the cost or value of something, or the amount of the cost or value
  • Outstanding - an amount of money that is outstanding has not yet been paid
  • Trigger - to make something happen
  • Operationalise - put into operation or use
  • Reluctance - a feeling of being unwilling to do something or of wishing that you did not have to do it
  • Non-performing asset - a non performing asset (NPA) is a loan or advance for which the principal or interest payment remained overdue for a period of 90 days
  • Flak - criticism and argument
  • Sway - to influence or change someone’s opinion
  • Concern - a feeling of worry about something, especially one that a lot of people have about an important issue
  • Talking tough - to speak in a way that makes other people fear you
  • Rollover - a situation in which the money earned from investing in something is invested again in a similar thing
  • Unfair - not fair or reasonable
  • Benchmark Prime Lending Rate - the reference interest rate based on which a bank lends to its credit worthy borrowers
  • Sunset clause - part of a law or contract that states when it will end, or the conditions under which it will end
  • Asset - something such as money or property that a person or company owns
  • Liability - the amount of money that a company owes
  • Impasse - a situation in which progress is not possible because none of the people involved are willing to change their opinion or decision

  • Trauma - a bad experience that makes you feel very upset, afraid, or shocked
  • Undocumented - not supported by written proof
  • Migrant - someone who travels to another place or country in order to find work
  • Zero-tolerance - a policy of punishing people for even very minor offences by using the law in a very strict way
  • Outrage - a strong feeling of anger and shock at something that you feel is wrong or unfair
  • Burgeoning - growing or developing quickly
  • Minor - someone who has not reached the age at which they are legally an adult
  • Foster care - temporary custody or guardianship for children whose parents are dead or unable to look after them
  • Significant - very large or noticeable
  • Majority - the larger number or part of something
  • Instance - an example of something happening
  • Toddler - a very young child who is learning how to walk
  • Facility - something such as a room or piece of equipment that is provided at a place for people to use
  • Allegedly - if someone allegedly does something, another person says that they have done it, even though this has not been proved
  • Wail - to shout or cry with a long high sound to show that you are in pain or are very sad
  • Democrat - someone who supports democracy as a political system
  • Republican - a supporter of government by elected representatives of the people rather than government by a king or queen
  • Concern - a feeling of worry about something, especially one that a lot of people have about an important issue
  • Ethics - a set of principles that people use to decide what is right and what is wrong
  • Discourage - to try to prevent something from happening, especially because you do not approve of it or think it is harmful
  • Sole responsibility - to be the only person who owns something/is responsible for something etc
  • Blame - to say or think that someone or something is responsible for an accident, problem, or bad situation
  • Immigration - the process in which people enter a country in order to live there permanently
  • Mitigate - to reduce the harmful effects of something
  • Garner - to collect or obtain a large amount of something useful or important
  • Poignant - giving you feelings of sadness
  • Tragic - causing or involving great sadness, because someone suffers or dies
  • Bipartisan - involving two political parties with different ideas or policies
  • Rescind - to state officially that something such as a law or an agreement has ended and no longer has legal authority
  • Critic - someone who does not like something and states their opinion about it
  • Loophole - something that has been left out of a law or legal document that people can use to avoid obeying it
  • Alien - someone who is not a citizen of the country they are living in
  • Deport - to send someone out of a country, usually because they do not have a legal right to be there
  • Vulnerable - someone who is vulnerable is weak or easy to hurt physically or mentally
  • Asylum-seeker - someone who has to leave their own country because they are in danger and who arrives in another country and asks to be allowed to live there
  • Unaccompanied - someone who is unaccompanied goes somewhere alone
  • Adjudication - to make an official decision about a problem or disagreement
  • Detention - the state of being kept in a police station or prison and not being allowed to leave
  • Devastating - causing a lot of harm or damage
  • Consequence - a result of a particular action or situation, often one that is bad or not convenient
  • Unspeakable - used for emphasizing how bad something is and how much it upsets you
