As part of a small, but important reshuffle of the cabinet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi removed Smriti Irani from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. She is now only in charge of textiles. The portfolio will now be handled by Rajyavardhan Rathore, who was the junior minister in the department, with independent charge.

Railways and coal minister Piyush Goyal will hold charge of the finance and corporate affairs ministries till Arun Jaitley recovers from the kidney transplant.

Minister of state for drinking water and sanitation SS Ahluwalia has been moved to the ministry of electronics & information technology (MeitY). 

Alphons Kannanthanam has been relieved as Minister of State in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. He continues as Minister of State for Tourism.
