Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "Deal breaker: on the U.S.' withdrawal from the Iran deal"
  • Deal breaker - a factor or problem that will prevent someone from agreeing to something, doing something
  • Retreat - to decide not to do something
  • Undermine - to make something or someone become gradually less effective, confident, or successful
  • Unilaterally - done or decided by one country, group, or person, often without considering what other countries etc think or want
  • Setback - a problem that delays or that stops progress or makes a situation worse
  • Multilateral - involving more than two groups or countries
  • Diplomacy - the management of relationships between countries
  • Curtail - to reduce or limit something
  • Sanctions - an official order to stop communication, trade, etc with a country that has broken international law

  • Hardliner - a member of a group, typically a political group, who is very severe, for example in refusing to allow something or to give people what they want
  • Wrecked - very badly damaged or destroyed
  • Numerous - many
  • Compliant - used to describe something that obeys a particular rule or law
  • Comprehensive - including many details or aspects of something
  • Comply with - to obey a rule or law, or to do what someone asks you to do
  • Administration - the government of a country
  • Concerned - worried about something
  • Ally - a country that makes an agreement with another country that they will work together to help each other, especially in a war
  • Mainstream - considered ordinary or normal and accepted or used by most people

  • Cautiously - in a careful way, to avoid problems or danger

  • Stick together - if people stick together, they remain close together and support one another
  • Mandate - an official order to do something
  • Buckle - to bend, or to make something bend under great pressure
