International Current Affairs
- President of the United States Donald Trump issued a declaration designating April 2018 as 'National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month'.
- Note : This move was first started by former President Barack Obama in 2010.
- To ensure safe future for young women, West Bengal government has launched a scheme titled “Rupashree”.
- Under Rupashree scheme, the government provides one-time financial support for marriage of poor girls.
- Important Note : This scheme was earlier announced by Amit Mitra, the Finance Minister of West Bengal, at the time of budget.
- To ensure that all employees receive their due promotions, Madhya Pradesh has increased the retirement age for government employees from 60 to 62 years.
New Appointments
- Martin Vizcarra was sworn in as Peru's new president.
- He has replaced Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, who resigned to avoid impeachment.
- Government has appointed former chairman of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Vineet Joshi, as the 1st Director-General (DG) of the National Testing Agency (NTA).
- He will have tenure of five years.
- Congress President Rahul Gandhi appointed Ashok Gehlot as the General Secretary In-Charge, Organisation, Training of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), replacing Janardan Dwivedi.
- He also appointed former Union Minister Jitendra Singh as the AICC in-charge of Odisha, replacing BK Hariprasad.
- MP Rajeev Satav was appointed as the AICC in-charge of Gujarat.
- Government has appointed 1995 batch IAS officer of Union Territories Cadre and senior bureaucrat Chandra Bhushan Kumar as Deputy Election Commissioner.
- He will have tenure of 5 years.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- Gurugram-based hotel aggregator Oyo has launched its own cryptocurrency called 'Oyo Smart Coin'.
- Using the cryptocurrency, customers will be able to transact with reduced prices.
Awards & Honors
- Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today presented the G.K. Reddy Memorial National Award for journalism to senior journalist and television presenter Karan Thapar.
Science & Technology
- Scientists have discovered new organ in human body and have named it as ‘interstitium’.
- It will be the 80th organ and might be might be the biggest organ in human body.
- The discovery of interstitium will help to explain how cancer spreads in body and pave way for new ways to detect and treat the disease.
- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is going to send its 1st-ever mission named as InSight dedicated to exploring the deep interior of Mars.
- InSight will be stationary lander that will be launched in May 2018.
- InSight - Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport
- Pakistan has successfully test-fired its indigenously designed and built nuclear-capable, submarine-launched cruise missile (SLCM) Babur III.
- The missile was fired from underwater dynamic platform and successfully engaged its target with precise accuracy, meeting all the flight parameters.
Sports Current Affairs
- The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed ex-Director General of Police (Rajasthan), Ajit Singh, as the head of its Anti-Corruption Unit ahead of the Indian Premier League 2018.
- Singh replaces ex-Police Commissioner of Delhi, Neeraj Kumar, who has been retained as Advisor to the unit till May 31, 2018.
- Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has been appointed as the Coach-cum-mentor of Jammu and Kashmir senior state side for the 2018-2019 domestic season.
