International Current Affairs
  • Today (27th March) is World Theatre Day (WTD)
    • This day was initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute.
National Current Affairs
  • The Election Commission today announced that voting for Karnataka Assembly elections will take place on May 12 while the counting of the votes will be held on May 15.
  • Surat (Gujarat) has become the 1st Indian district to have 100% solar-powered Primary Health Centres (PHCs)
  • To create public awareness in judicial matters, the central government is going to install 'Justice Clocks' at all 24 high courts soon. 
    • The clocks will have LED display boards showing the daily rate of disposal of cases, pending cases and performance-based ranking of the courts.
  • The National Conference on Down Syndrome was recently held in New Delhi
    • This conference was organised by the National Trust under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Science & Technology
  • China's "out-of-control" space laboratory Tiangong-1 would crash into Earth between March 30 and April 2, according to the European Space Agency. 
    • The 8.5-tonne station will re-enter the atmosphere between 43°N and 43°S with cities like New York, Madrid, Beijing among 'high risk' zones.

  • Anushka Sharma is the only Bollywood actress who has featured on the Forbes Asia 30 under 30 list
    • Other Indians who have featured on the list include model Bhumika Arora, Youth Ki Awaaz Founder Anshul Tewari and badminton player PV Sindhu.
  • Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has become the 1st CM in the state to complete the full five-year term in 40 years. 
    • The last Karnataka CM to finish the full term was D Devaraj Urs, who ruled from 1972 to 1977.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The issuer of Indian currency, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today announced that it is going to issue Rs 350 coin to mark the 350th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji
  • The Indian government plans to borrow ₹2.88 lakh crore between April-September in the upcoming fiscal.
    • This amounts to 47.5% of government's budgeted gross borrowing target for the financial year. 
  • Renowned Indian painter Raja Ravi Varma’s untitled painting of Tilottama sold for ₹5.17 crore at Sotheby’s New York sale of Modern and Contemporary South Asian Art.
    • Varma, who was declared a national treasure by the Indian government in 1979, eschewed Western subject matter and often illustrated myriad stories from Vedic mythology as well as the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
New Appointments
  • US President Donald Trump has named John Bolton as his new National Security Adviser (NSA).
MOUs & Agreements
  • Indian and Chinese companies have signed commercial deals linked to agriculture worth nearly $2.36 billion.
    • The deals aim to boost trade in castor oil, coco fiber, peppermint oil, green coffee bean, black tea and other products.
  • The International Solar Alliance (ISA) and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) signed Host Country Agreement in New Delhi. 
    • The agreement gives ISA juridical personality an power to contract, acquire and dispose off movable and immovable properties and also to institute and defend legal proceedings.
Science & Technology
  • According to a report released by internet testing and analysis platform Ookla, India ranked 67th in Fixed broadband speeds globally at 20.72 Mbps in February this year. 
    • India ranked 109th in mobile internet download speed.
    • India's upload speeds for mobile data stood at 3.66 Mbps.
  • The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has partnered with private space launching company SpaceX to launch Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) to search for exoplanets using the transit method.
    • TESS is designed to carry out first spaceborne all-sky transiting exoplanet survey. 
    •  It is planned to be launched in April 2018 on board of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

  • US President Donald Trump took to Twitter to promote a book titled 'What Really Happened: How Donald J Trump Saved America From Hillary Clinton'. 
    • This book has been authored by Boston talk-show host Howie Carr.
Sports Current Affairs
  • Australian cricket team coach Darren Lehmann is going to resign from his position following the ball-tampering incident that took place against South Africa in the third Test. 
    • He tried to cover up the cheating incident by sending word to Bancroft that his use of the tape to tamper the ball had been spotted by the television cameras.
