International Current Affairs
  • Chinese President Xi Jinping became the country's first leader to take oath on the Constitution after he was unanimously re-elected to serve indefinitely. 
    • Jinping took oath as both the President and the head of the country's military. 
National Current Affairs
  • PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Navi Mumbai international airport, which is expected to ease flight operations at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.
    • The airport is being built at the cost of ₹16,700 crore, more than five times the estimated cost when it was first proposed in 1998.
  • A Ranchi court today pronounced RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav guilty in the 4th fodder scam case. 
    • Yadav has been convicted in three other fodder scam cases and is currently serving his jail sentences.
New Appointments
  • Vladimir Putin has been elected as the President of Russia for his fourth term with over 76% of the votes, and will now lead the country for another six years.
    • Important Note : Putin, who has ruled Russia as either Prime Minister or President since 1999, was already the country's longest-serving leader since Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin.
  • President Ram Nath Kovind has given Bihar Governor Satya Pal Malik additional charge of Odisha until regular arrangements are made.
    • Malik was given additional charge after incumbent governor S C Jamir completed his five-year tenure. 
Science & Technology
  • The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has commissioned interceptor boat ICGS C-437 at Porbandar, Gujarat as part of its efforts to strengthen coastal security. 
    • ICGS C-437 shall be based at Jakhau under administrative and operational control of commander Coast Guard Region (North West).
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • Amid a shortage of banknotes in the country, Venezuelan city of Elorza has begun issuing its own currency. 
    • The currency, which is available in two denominations, features the face of local independence leader José Andrés Elorza. 
    • The new currency notes are being sold at municipality offices via bank transfer and can only be used in the city.
  • To protect domestic producers from below-cost shipments, the Indian government has imposed anti-dumping duty on import of ‘Ofloxacin’ from China. 
  • President Ram Nath Kovind has released Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 10 commemorative coins on the occasion of Nabakalebar festival at a function held in Puri, Odisha. 
    • These coins were release to mark the festival which is a symbolic recreation of sibling deities — Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.
  • In a completely online and paperless manner, the ICICI Bank has launched instant overdraft ‘InstaOD’ facility for MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) customers. 
    • Customers can get overdraft facility up to Rs 15 lakh for a year anytime, anywhere using the bank’s Internet and mobile banking app.

  • India has won the "Best Exhibitor Award" at ITB -Berlin World Tourist Meet 2018, which was held at Berlin, Germany.
    • India was represented by the Minister of State (Independent charge) for Tourism K. J. Alphons.
  • With 22.4 million followers, Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone won the 'Most Followed Account' award at the 1st ever Instagram Awards in India. 
    • Cricketer Virat Kohli won 'Most Engaged Account' award.
  • Actor Jackie Shroff's short film "Shunyata" has won an award at Best of India Short Film Festival in Los Angeles, US.
    • The 22-minute fiction film was directed by Chintan Sarda. 
Sports Current Affairs
  • India defeated Bangladesh by four wickets in the final of the T20I tri-series in Colombo to register their fourth consecutive T20I series victory. 
  • Vidarbha has won their maiden Irani Cup trophy by defeating Rest of India. 
    • Important Note : This is Vidharbha's 2nd title in domestic cricket after Ranji Trophy.
