International Current Affairs

- Iceland has become the first country in the world to make it illegal to pay men more than women.
National Current Affairs
- Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today approved the purchase of 240 precision-guided bombs worth ₹1,254 crore for the Air Force and 131 Barak missiles worth ₹460 crore for the Navy.
- While the missiles are designed to be used as in ship-borne anti-missile defence systems against ships, the bombs are aimed at addressing the deficiency of precision-guided munitions in IAF's arsenal.
- The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department is going to introduce the Vehicle registration number portability.
- The Vehicle Registration Number Portability allows the vehicle owners to retain vehicle numbers even if they sell it.
- To provide information on all central and state government schemes for women, the Women and Child Development Ministry today launched a web portal titled NARI.
- NARI Portal carries details on 350 different schemes and will be updated from time to time.
- The schemes are divided into seven different categories– education, employment, and addressing violence among others.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- The Union Cabinet has approved a proposal that government will bear the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) charges on transactions up to Rs 2,000 made through Debit Cards, BHIM UPI or Aadhaar-enabled payment systems to promote digital transactions.
- This rule comes into force from 1st January 2018.
- Tto promote cashless payments, the Indian Railways is going to launch its own debit card in association with State Bank of India (SBI) and Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
- Parliament has passed the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Amendment) Bill, 2017 with the approval of Rajya Sabha.
- This Bill seeks to amend National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Act, 1981.
- The Act establishes NABARD for providing and regulating facilities like credit for agricultural and industrial development in the rural areas.
New Appointments
- Former RAW Chief Rajinder Khanna has been appointed as the Deputy National Security Advisor.
- He is currently working as Officer on Special Duty (Neighbourhood Studies) in the National Security Council Secretariat.
