International Current Affairs
  • Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in India for a 6-day state visit. 
    • He is the second Israeli Prime Minister to visit India in the last 25 years of a diplomatic relationship.
    • He attended the ceremony to mark the formal renaming of Delhi's Teen Murti Chowk as Teen Murti Haifa Chowk, after the Israeli city of Haifa. 
  • Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedoy has issued an order banning women from driving in the country.
National Current Affairs
  • Haryana has recorded its Highest Sex Ratio at birth with 914 girls per 1,000 boys in 2017.
    • Note : Haryana had recorded the worst sex ratio at birth in the 2011 Census with 834 girls per 1,000 boys.
  • West Bengal government has launched a Water ATM project to provide bacteria-free drinking water in schools.
Awards & Honors
  • Television actress Shilpa Shinde has been declared the winner of reality TV show 'Bigg Boss 11'.
New Appointments
  • Senior sports administrator Anil Khanna was named Chairman of the Finance Commission of the Indian Olympic Association.
  • V.J. Mathew has been appointed as the 1st chairman of the Kerala Maritime Board.
    • The board was consituted by the government for the administration, control, and management of minor ports in the State.
    • Prakash Iyer (Kochi), M.P. Shibu (Cherthala), M.K. Uthaman (Alappuzha), and V. Manilal (Kollam) will be the government nominees on the board.
Recent Committees in News
  • Less than three months after it was set up, the Committee of Governors submitted a report on best practices to President Ram Nath Kovind today.
    • The report titled ‘Rajyapal –Vikas Ke Rajdoot : Catalytic Role of Governors as Agents for Change in Society’, focuses on key work areas of development and the role that governors can play in taking this forward.
    • The 5 member committee comprised governors E.S.L.Narasimhan (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Banwarilal Purohit (Tamil Nadu), Ram Naik (Uttar Pradesh), Tathagata Roy (Tripura) and Acharya Devvrat (Himachal Pradesh).
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • IDFC Bank's board has approved a takeover of financial firm Capital First in a share swap deal. 
    • Shareholders of Capital First will get 139 shares of IDFC Bank for every 10 held. The merger will form a combined entity with assets under management of ₹88,000 crore, branch network of 194 and customer base of over 5 million.
  • India has been ranked 30th on the World Economic Forum's (WEF) 'Structure of Production' Index.
    • Japan topped the list. 
  • The Indian Navy is planning to acquire its 3rd Aircraft carrier for ₹1.6 lakh crore along with 57 twin-engine fighter planes.
    • Note : While the Navy has one operational aircraft carrier, INS Vikramaditya, its second carrier, INS Vikrant, is under construction and is expected to join service in the next few years.
  • IndusInd Bank and Dynamics Inc today announced plans to introduce the first battery-powered, interactive payment cards in the Indian market in 2018.
    • This new card has multiple buttons that let the consumer use a single card to pay in multiple ways.
Books & Authors
  • A new book titled "Majuli: Resources and Challenges" edited by author- academician Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti has been released. 
    • This is a collection of essays by experts and is replete with photographs, maps, diagrams and charts.
    • This book explores the beauty as well as challenges of Majuli, which is a treasure trove of folk culture besides being the world's largest freshwater river island and the lone island district in India.
Sports Current Affairs
  • The Afghanistan Cricket Board has announced that the first-ever Afghanistan Premier League will take place in the UAE in October this year. 
    • The T20 tournament will be played between five teams, with the auction to purchase teams to be held in March.
