International Current Affairs

• India and Afghanistan today inaugurated their second air cargo route linking Mumbai and Kabul. 
• This new route is expected to boost Afghanistan's export of fruits and medicinal plants. 
• Note : The 1st air corridor between India and Afghanistan was launched in June this year to link Kabul and New Delhi.
• China and Pakistan today offered to include Afghanistan in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) on mutually beneficial principles after the first trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of the three countries. 
• Elections won by India on the global stage in the year 2017 :
  
• Re-elected to the UN's Economic and Social Council.
• Re-elected to the International Maritime Organisation Council. 
• Re-elected to the International Court of Justice (Justice Dalveer Bhandari)
• Elected to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (Neeru Chadha - 1st Indian woman).

National Current Affairs

• Indian national anthem 'Jana Gana Mana' was first sung on this day (27th December) in the year 1911, at the Calcutta session of the Indian National Congress.
• India had no official national anthem at the time of independence as 'Jana Gana Mana' was adopted as the national anthem by the Constituent Assembly on 24th January 24 1950.
• Note : The anthem was composed by Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore.
• The Uttar Pradesh Government launched two schemes, they are :
• Prakash hai to vikas hai Scheme : 
• This is a free household power connection scheme for the poor in the state. 
• This scheme was launched on Good Governance Day (25th December 2017 - former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birthday)
• Kisan Uday Yojana :
• This is a scheme for farmers in which existing 5 HP (Horse Power)/7.5 HP submersible and coupling sets of farmers will be replaced free of cost. 
• The scheme will cover 10 lakh farmers by 2022 and will lead to 35% saving on power consumption.

New Appointments

• BJP's veteran leader and five-time MLA Jai Ram Thakur took oath as the 14th Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh after the party formed the state government with 44 seats.
• He defeated Congress candidate Chet Ram from Seraj with a margin of over 11,000 votes. 
• He had earlier served as state Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.

Awards & Honors

• Bollywood Actress Anushka Sharma has been named Person of the Year by animal rights organisation People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Deaths

• Hollywood actress Heather Menzies-Urich (68), known for playing the role of Louisa von Trapp from the 1956 musical 'The Sound of Music', passed away.

Banking, Business & Economic Affairs

• Hollywood Actor Vin Diesel has been named the top-grossing actor of 2017 by Forbes, with $1.6 billion in global ticketing receipts from his film 'The Fate of the Furious'. 
• Dwayne Johnson stood at 2nd position with $1.5 billion receipts followed by the 'Wonder Woman' actress Gal Gadot, whose films earned $1.4 billion worldwide.

MOUs & Agreements

• The governments of India and Tamil Nadu signed an agreement with the World Bank for the multilateral lender to provide a $318 million loan for modernisation of irrigation projects in Tamil Nadu, improve market opportunities for small and marginal farmers and their adoption of climate resilient techniques. 
• The Uttar Pradesh government has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Korea on to enhance cooperation in the field of tourism, skill development, culture and farming.
