Meet the new CAG of India - Rajiv Mehrishi

Former Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi today took charge as the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India. He has replaced Shashi Kant Sharma, who demitted office on September 22.  With this, Mehrishi became the 13th CAG of India.

The 62-year-old is a 1978 batch (retired) Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Rajasthan cadre. He retired after completing two terms as the Home Secretary in 2017. Mehrishi had also worked as Economic Affairs Secretary and Chief Secretary of Rajasthan earlier.


About CAG :
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India is an authority, which audits all receipts and expenditure of the Government of India and the state governments, including those of bodies and authorities substantially financed by the government. The CAG is ranked 9th and enjoys the same status as a judge of Supreme Court of India in Indian order of precedence. 

The CAG is appointed for a term of six years or till the incumbent attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier. Mehrishi will have tenure of about three years.
