Hai Friends I'm Kani. Here I'm sharing English Vocabulary from Editorial section of Today's Hindu News Paper dated 21st September 2017. Happy reading :)

  • Broom - a brush with a long handle, used for cleaning the floor
  • Crackdown - a situation in which someone starts to deal with bad or illegal behaviour in a more severe way
  • Shell company - a company that is used to hide illegal activities
  • Duly - in the way that you expect or think is suitable
  • Name and shame - to publish embarrassing facts about a person or organization, especially in order to persuade them to change their behaviour or policies
  • So-called - used for showing that you think a word used for describing someone or something is not suitable
  • Disqualify - to not allow someone to do something because they have committed an offence
  • Debar -  to officially prevent someone from doing something
  • Firm - a business or company
  • Bona fide - a bona fide person or thing is really what they seem to be or what they claim to be
  • Virtually - used for emphasizing that a statement is almost completely true
  • Publicise - to make information about something generally available
  • Fraught with - full of unpleasant things such as problems or dangers
  • Underlying - underlying causes, facts, ideas etc are the real or basic ones, although they are not obvious or directly stated
  • Motive - the reason that you do something
  • Cite - to mention something as an example, explanation, or proof of something else
  • Laudable - deserving to be praised or admired
  • Inadvertently - not deliberately, and without realizing what you are doing
  • Taint - to make someone seem less honest, morally pure etc
  • Appellate - relating to a legal appeal
  • Tribunal - a special law court organized to judge a particular case
  • Hastily - not well planned
  • Sheer - used for emphasizing the amount or degree of something
  • Imperative - extremely important and urgent
  • Diligence - the attitude or behaviour of someone who works very hard and very carefully
  • Mala fide - illegal or dishonest
  • Comply with - to obey a rule or law, or to do what someone asks you to do
  • Onus - the responsibility or duty to do something
  • Subvert - to attack or harm a government or established system of law, politics etc
  • Underlying - underlying causes, facts, ideas etc are the real or basic ones, although they are not obvious or directly stated
  • Shortcoming - a fault or problem that makes someone or something less effective
  • Malfeasance - illegal actions
  • Entrepreneur - someone who uses money to start businesses and make business deals
  • Chagrin - a feeling of being very annoyed, disappointed, or embarrassed
  • Dissolve - if a group or organization dissolves, or if someone dissolves it, it stops existing
  • Wind up - to end something
  • Rigging - the act of organizing something in a dishonest way in order to produce a particular result
  • Insider trading - the crime of buying or selling shares in a company using information that is available only to people working within that company
  • Questionable - not good or honest
  • Acute - very serious or severe
  • Illiquidity - used to describe an asset that is not easy to sell and exchange for cash
  • Oversight - something that you do not notice or think of that causes problems later
  • Fraudster - someone who commits the crime of fraud
  • Money launderer - someone who transforms the profits of crime and corruption into "legal" assets
  • Address - to give attention to or deal with a matter or problem
  • Deep-rooted  a deep-rooted feeling, belief, idea etc is strong and you have had it for so long that it is difficult to change
  • Malady - a serious problem within a society or organization
  • Symptom - a sign of a larger problem
  • Insolvency - the state of not having enough money to pay debts, buy goods, etc
  • Bankruptcy - a situation in which a business or a person unable to pay what they owe
  • Dissolve - if a group or organization dissolves, or if someone dissolves it, it stops existing
  • Delist - to stop a company's shares being traded on the stock market
  • Usher in - to make an activity or process begin
  • Significant - very large or noticeable
  • Compliant - used to describe something that obeys a particular rule or law
  • Stringent - strict
  • Penal - relating to the punishment of criminals
  • Tirade - a long angry speech criticizing someone or something
  • Non-proliferation - a policy of preventing any increase in the number of chemical weapons that countries have
  • Regime - a system of rules that control something
  • Slam - to criticize someone or something severely
  • Accord - a formal agreement between countries or groups
  • Put to rest - to finally show that something is not true
  • Embarrassment - a feeling of being nervous or ashamed because of what people know or think about you
  • Unsurprisingly - in a way that you expected
  • Trigger - to cause someone to have a particular feeling
  • Ignorant - not knowing something that you should know or need to know
  • Medieval - very old-fashioned
  • Consistent - not changing in behaviour, attitudes, or qualities
  • Pragmatism - a practical way of thinking or dealing with problems that emphasizes results and solutions more than theories
  • Aberration - something that is not normal or not what you would usually expect
  • Hostility - opposition to something
  • Theocratic - relating to or denoting a system of government in which priests rule in the name of God or a god
  • Regime - a system or form of government
  • Unravel - if a process or project unravels, it begins to fail
  • Forge - to develop a successful relationship, especially in business or politics, with another country, organization, or person
  • Intense - very great or extreme
  • Negotiation - formal discussions in which people or groups try to reach an agreement, especially in a business or political situation
  • Signatory - a person or organization that has signed an official agreement
  • Shortcoming - a fault or problem that makes someone or something less effective
  • Multilateral - involving three or more groups, especially the governments of three or more countries
  • Irresolvable - (of a problem or dilemma) impossible to solve or settle
  • Compliant - too willing to do what other people want or too willing to accept their opinions
  • Pursuing - to try to achieve something
  • Conflict - angry disagreement between people or groups
  • Contrary - completely different or opposed to something else
  • Substantial - large in amount or degree
  • Diplomacy - the ability to deal with people in a sensitive way that does not upset or offend them
  • Hard-line - extreme and severe and not likely to change
  • Ally - a country that makes an agreement with another country that they will work together to help each other
  • Undermine - to make something or someone become gradually less effective, confident, or successful
  • Non-proliferation - the prevention of an increase or spread of something, especially the number of countries possessing nuclear weapons
  • Setback - a problem that delays or that stops progress or makes a situation worse
