International Current Affairs
  • The 12th edition of India-Nepal joint military exercise - Surya Kiran XII was recently started at Nepal Army Battle School (NABS) in Saljhandi, Nepal.
    • Mid-Western Division Chief, Major General Rajendra Karki inaugurated the exercise. 
    • Lieutenant Colonel Jayendra KC from Nepali Army and Colonel Lalit Mohan Mishra from Indian Army have been leading the joint military exercise.
    • The 14 day exercise will be held from 3rd to 16th September 2017.
National Current Affairs
  • Teachers Day‬ is being observed across the country today (5th September).
    • Important Points to Note :
      • 5th September is celebrated as Teachers Day as a mark of respect to teachers and their contributions to the society.
      • This day commemorates birth anniversary of former President Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a philosopher and a teacher par excellence, and his contribution towards Indian education system.
      • He was honored with  Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India, in 1954.
      • This is his 127th Birth Day.
      • Since 1962, his birthday is celebrated in India as Teachers' Day.
  • Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath today inaugurated the first phase of Lucknow Metro
    • The Metro corridor, measuring 8.5 km, took over three years to complete and will be operational for the general public from tomorrow. 
  • Odisha got its first state-run college in 54 years, Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH).
  • The Maharashtra government has drafted a bill to make it illegal for doctors to refer patients to healthcare centres, including hospitals and laboratories, in exchange for 'cuts' or commissions.
  • The Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation has constituted task force for speedy implementation of various ongoing Namami Gange programme.
    • The task force consists ministers and officials from water resources, urban development, drinking water and sanitation and rural development among others onboard.
New Appointments
  • P R Seshadri has assumed charge as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Karur Vysya Bank.
    • He succeeds K Venkataraman who has been leading the bank for more than six years.
  • Drugmaker Novartis has named Indian-origin Vasant Narasimhan as CEO effective February 1, 2018.
    • He will replace Joseph Jimenez.
  • K. Rama Chandra Murty took over as the regional executive director (south) of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in Secunderabad on Monday.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has listed HDFC Bank as a Domestic Systemically Important Bank (DSIB) under the bucketing structure identified last year. 
    • Important Note : State Bank of India and ICICI Bank were already identified as DSIBs under the RBI rules in 2015. 
Sports Current Affairs
  • The official song of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, Kar Ke Dikhla De Goal, has been formally launched today. 
    • The music video of the song features former Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia, woman footballer Bala Devi and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. 
    • The song has been sung by artists including Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan, and also includes a rap by Abhishek Bachchan.
