National Current Affairs
  • The Maharashtra government has decided to declare lightning a disaster and increase the compensation from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹4 lakh for victims and their families.
    • This comes after the Centre recently directed the states to allocate 10% of their disaster relief funds towards state-specific disasters.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • China's central bank, the People's Bank of China, has banned individuals and organisations from raising funds through Initial Coin Offerings (ICO).
MOUs & Agreements
  • Five banks of the BRICS Interbank Cooperation Mechanism (ICM) have signed an agreement to establish local currency credit lines and develop cooperation on credit ratings in the run-up to the forthcoming BRICS summit in China.
    • This agreement will allow these 5 banks to establish framework mechanism to extend credit lines in local currencies to BRICS ICM members and BRICS companies against guarantees of signatory banks. 
    • The five banks are :
      • Brazilian Development Bank
      • Vnesheconombank (Russia)
      • Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM)
      • China Development Bank 
      • Development Bank of South Africa
Science & Technology
  • Iran has tested the Bavar 373 missile which is a part of its homegrown air defence system.
    • This is Iran's first long-range missile defence system and is designed to match the Russian S-300 missile system.
