  • Adherence -  the action of continuing to obey a rule, law, agreement etc
  • Proceedings - the actions taken, usually in court, to settle a legal matter
  • To stall - to stop
  • Execution - the act of killing a person as a punishment for a crime
  • Impel - if a feeling or idea impels you to do something, it forces you to do it
  • Peculiar - strange, often in an unpleasant way

  • Violation - an action that is in opposition to a law, agreement, principle etc
  • Convention - a formal agreement between governments of different countries about how they should behave towards each other or towards the people in their country
  • Consular - relating to a government official sent to live in another country and look after their own country’s citizens and business interests there
  • Denying - to not allow someone to have or do something
  • Pursue -  to follow a course of activity
  • Appellate - relating to a legal appeal
  • Remedy - a solution to a particular problem
  • Alleged - claimed to be true, even though this has not been proved
  • Instituting - to start something such as a system or an official process
  • Virtually - used for emphasizing that a statement is almost completely true
  • Substantive -  important or serious, or referring to the most important or serious issues
  • Interim - temporary and intended to be used or accepted until something permanent exists
  • On the face of it - used for saying that something appears to be true but might not be true when you have examined it in more detail
  • Incongruous - strange because of being very different to other things which happen or exist in the same situation

  • Dispute - a serious disagreement, especially one between groups of people that lasts for a long time
  • Jurisdiction - the right or power to make legal decisions

  • Banked on someone - to depend on someone
  • Foothold - a position from which you can improve your status or become more successful in an organization, profession, or market
  • Skipper - captain of a sports team
  • Decisive - strongly affecting how a situation will progress or end
  • Pioneer -  one of the first people to do something important that is later continued and developed by other people
