The Chairperson of the State Bank of India (SBI), Arundhati Bhattacharya has been ranked 26th in the Fortune’s top 50 greatest leaders. She along with Indian-origin physician Raj Panjabi (founder and CEO  of Last Mile Health - 28th rank) have been named by Fortune magazine among the world's 50 greatest leaders who are transforming the world and inspiring others to do the same. Bhattacharya, Chairman of India's largest bank and the first-ever woman to do so, is the only Indian corporate leader in the list.

Bhattacharya has steered the SBI through an ongoing battle with bad loans, surprise demonetisation move and will be overseeing the upcoming six-bank merger. She had been appointed to the coveted post of SBI Chairperson in October 2013 and was ranked by Forbes as 25th most powerful woman in the world in 2016.

The list has been topped by President of Baseball Operations at Chicago Cubs Theo Epstein, followed by Alibaba Group Executive Chairman Jack Ma on the second spot, Pope Francis (3), Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Cochair Melinda Gates (4) and Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos (5). The leaders in this Fortune list excel at leading effectively in today’s challenging business environment.
