Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "Stalin at the helm"

  • At the helm - in charge or in the position of a leader
  • Elevation - the act of giving someone higher status or a more important position
  • Achieve - to succeed in finishing something or reaching an aim, especially after a lot of work or effort
  • Vacuum - a lack of something
  • Prolonged - continuing for a long time
  • Fluid - smooth and continuous
  • Prevailing - existing at a particular time or in a particular place
  • Make way for somebody - to be replaced by someone or something
  • Designated - to choose someone officially to do a particular job
  • Successor - someone who has an important position after someone else
  • Despite - used for saying that something happens even though something else might have prevented it
  • Reluctant - snot willing to do something
  • Step down - to give up a job or position
  • Run-up - the final period of time before an important event
  • Patriarch - the oldest man in a family or organization, who is respected because of this
  • Endorse - to make a public statement of your approval or support for something or someone
  • Overdue - if something is overdue, it should have been done before now
  • Stern - difficult
  • Bide your time - to wait calmly for a good opportunity to do something
  • Disenchantment - disappointed and no longer enthusiastic about someone or something
  • Accentuated - to emphasize a particular feature of something or to make something more noticeable
  • Rival - a person, group, etc. competing with others for the same thing or in the same area
  • Disarray - a situation in which people are very confused or things are not organized, especially because something unexpected has happened
  • At the helm - officially controlling an organization or company
  • Rivalry - a situation in which people, businesses, etc. compete with each other for the same thing
  • Contestation - the act of arguing or disagreeing about something
  • Emerging - starting to exist
  • Decency - behaviour that is good, moral, and acceptable in society

  • Integrity - the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles that you refuse to change
