Topic 1 : "Turkey’s dangerous move on Syria"

  • Incursion - a sudden attack
  • Active player - someone who is very involved in an activity or organization
  • Conflict - angry disagreement between people or groups
  • Combat - fighting during a war
  • Backed - supported
  • Recaptured - used force to take control of an area again
  • Rebels - someone who tries to remove a government or leader using force
  • Seize - to take control of a place or situation using military force
  • Unprecedented - never having happened or existed in the past
  • Cross-border - between different countries, or involving people from different countries
  • Unsurprisingly - in a way that you expected
  • Troops - soldiers, especially in large numbers
  • Retreat - to go away from a place or person in order to escape from fighting or danger
  • Concern - a feeling of worry about something
  • Jeopardise - to put something such as a plan or system in danger of being harmed or damaged
  • Militia - a group of ordinary people who are trained as soldiers to fight in an emergency
  • Consolidate - to become more stronger
  • Autonomous - independent and has the power to govern itself
  • Strategic - a detailed plan for achieving success in situations such as war, politics, business
  • Threat - a situation or an activity that could cause harm or danger
  • Counterparts - someone or something that has the same job or purpose as another person or thing, but in a different country, time, situation, or organization
  • Rupture - an end to a friendly relationship or to a peaceful situation
  • Momentum - progress or development that is becoming faster or stronger
  • Decline - to become less or worse
  • Incursion - a sudden attack on an area controlled by other people
  • Given - knowing about or considering a particular thing
  • Persists - to continue to do or say something in a determined way
  • Witness - to see / experience
  • Spell war - to cause something bad to happen in the future
  • Resolving - to solve or end a problem or difficulty
  • Conflict - fighting between two or more groups of people or countries
  • Chaos - a state of total confusion with no order
  • Clout - power and influence over other people or events

Topic 2 : "Advance the Budget"

  • Advanced - well developed
  • Contemplating - to consider doing something in the future
  • Unveiling - the act of officially announcing something such as a plan or a new product
  • Superfluous - not needed or wanted
  • Significantly - by a large amount, or in a way that is easily noticeable
  • Alter - change
  • Outcome - the final result of a process
  • Table - to suggest formally in a meeting something that you would like everyone to discuss
  • Commencement - the beginning of something
  • Provisions - the act of providing something
  • Expenditure - money spent by a government, organization, or person
  • Spike - a sudden increase in something
  • Scramble - to hurry or try very hard to get something, often competing with other people
  • Exhaust - to use all that you have of something
  • Allocated - to officially give something to someone
  • For instance - for example
  • Onset - the beginning of something
  • Monsoon - a period of heavy rain in India and Southeast Asia
  • Execute - to complete something that you have agreed or planned to do
  • Infrastructure - the basic systems and services, such as transport and power supplies, that a country or organization uses in order to work effectively
  • Propose - to offer or suggest a possible plan or action for other people to consider
  • Annual - happening once a year
  • Rushed - done in a hurry
  • Tardy - delayed
  • Bumpy - not smooth / equal
  • Intended - aimed
  • Stimulus - something that causes growth or activity
  • Determinant - something that controls or decides how something else will develop or what result it will have
  • Endorsed - to express support for someone or something
  • Exigencies - the difficulties of a situation
  • Grapple - to fight, especially in order to win something
  • At somebody's disposal - available to be used by someone
  • Relies - depends
  • Revised - changed / improved
  • Mandarins - senior government officials
  • Pressed - in a difficult situation because you do not have enough time, money, or other things that you need
  • Rollout - the introduction of a new product
  • Switching - to change from one thing to another
  • Turn something around - to cause a situation or organization to change in a positive direction
