  • 1st June 2016
    • World Milk Day
      • This day was initiated on 1st June 2001 by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to celebrate all aspects of milk as a global food.
      • Important Note : Don't be confused this day with National Milk Day. National Milk Day is different. We observe National Milk Day on 26th November to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr.Verghese Kurien.
    • Global Day of Parents.
      • This is a United Nations (UN) observance to honor parents and their commitment to children worldwide.
  • 2nd June 2016
    • International Sex Workers Day.
      • This day honours sex workers and recognises their often exploited working conditions.
  • 4th June 2016
    • International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression.
      • This day was Originally focused on victims of the 1982 Lebanon War, its purpose expanded to "acknowledge the pain suffered by children throughout the world who are the victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse.
      • This day affirms the UN's commitment to protect the rights of children.
  • 5th June 2016
    • World Environment Day.
      • This day is celebrated every year to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth.
      • It is run by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
      • This day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 on the day that United Nations Conference on the Human Environment began.
      • Theme of the year 2016 : “Join the race to make the world a better place”.
    • Cancer Survivors Day (1st Sunday of June)
  • 8th June 2016
    • World Oceans Day.
      • This day is observed to raise awareness of the challenges humanity faces to protect the world's oceans.
      • Theme of 2016 : Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet
    • World Brain Tumor Day
      • This day was initiated by German Brain tumor Association in the year 2000 with the aim to spread awareness about this lethal disease.
  • 12th June 2016
    • World Day Against Child Labour.
      • This day was launched by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2002.
      • The main aim of this day is to raise awareness and activism to prevent child labour.
      • Theme of the year 2016 : End child labour in supply chains - It's everyone's business!
  • 13th June 2016
    • International Albinism Awareness Day.
    • Theme of the year 2016 : Celebrate Diversity, Promote Inclusiveness and Protect Rights of People with Albinism
  • 14th June 2016
    • World Blood Donor Day‬
    • This day  is celebrated every year on the day of birth anniversary of Austrian-American biologist and physician Karl Landsteiner (14th of June in 1868) who discovered the existence of different types of blood groups in 1901. 
    • He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930 for his discovery.
    • This day is observed to raise the public awareness about the need for safe blood donation.
    • Theme of the year 2016 : "Blood connects us all”

    • ASEAN Dengue Day
      • Theme of the year 2016 : Community Empowerment: A Sustainable Success to Fight Dengue
    • World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
      • This day was launched on June 15, 2006 by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations.
      • The purpose of this day is to provide an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect.
  • 17th June 2016
    • World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.
      • The purpose of this day is to highlight ways to prevent desertification and recover from drought.
      • 2016 Theme : “Inclusive cooperation for achieving Land Degradation Neutrality”.
  • 19th June 2016
    • Father's Day.
      • This day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society.
  • 20th June 2016
    • World Refugee Day
      • This day is observed by the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
      • This day is dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world.
      • The decision to observe the day, coinciding with Africa Refugee Day, was made by the UN in December 2000.
      • The first World Refugee Day marked the 50th anniversary of the UN Refugee Convention.
      • Theme of the year 2016 : We Stand Together With Refugee

    • International Yoga Day
      • This day was declared by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on December 11, 2014.
      • Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his UN Address suggested the date of 21st June to celebrate this day, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in many parts of the world.
      • 2016 Theme : “Connect the Youth”.
    • World Music Day (FĂȘte de la Musique)
      • This day is celebrated  in an attempt to promote peace and spread goodwill through melodies.
      • The day is originated in France in 1982 and is now observed in over 120 countries.
      • Aim of this day : To encourage free and accessible concerts or events for the public.
  • 23rd June 2016
    • World Public Service Day.
      • This day is dedicated by the United Nations to “celebrate the value and virtue of public service to the community”.
      • Since 2003, this day is marked with UN Public Service Awards Ceremony wherein works of public servants are recognised and they are awarded for their contributions in the field.
    • International Widows Day.
      • This day is a United Nations ratified day of action to address the "poverty and injustice faced by millions of widows and their dependents in many countries".
      • This day was established by The Loomba Foundation to raise awareness of the issue of widowhood.
      • The significance of 23 June is that it was on that day in 1954 that Shrimati Pushpa Wati Loomba, mother of the foundation's founder, Lord Loomba, became a widow.
      • Theme of the year 2016 : Never Alone
  • 25th June 2016
    • Day of the Seafarer.
      • Seafarer means "person who travels by sea"
      • This day is observed as an expression of thanks to the seafarers for their contribution to the economy and civil society of the world.
      • The observance of the day also acknowledges the risks and personal costs endured by seafarers while being in their jobs.
      • Theme of the year 2016 : “At Sea For All”
  • 26th June 2016
    • International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
      • This day  is a United Nations International Day against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade.
      • The date 26th June chosen to commemorate Lin Zexu's dismantling of the opium trade in Humen, Guangdong, just before the First Opium War in China.
      • Theme of the year 2016 : Listen First
    • International Day in Support of Victims and Nature.
      • This day had been launched by the United Nations (UN) in 1997 and is a result of the UN-convention against torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. This convention is binding according to international law, and aims to avoid, ban and prohibit torture.
      • Theme of the year 2016 : Fighting Impunity
  • 29th June 2016
    • National Statistics Day
      • This day is organised by Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
      • This day commemorates the birth anniversary of Indian Bengali scientist and applied statistician, Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis.
      • He is best remembered for the Mahalanobis distance, a statistical measure.
      • Theme of the year 2016 : “Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare”
