Topic 1 : "Enough, but much too late"

  • Scrapping - removing / cancelling
  • Redeem - to make something seem less bad
  • At stake - at risk
  • Constituency - a group of voters in a specified area who elect a representative to a legislative body
  • Impact - effect or influence
  • Context - the situation within which something happens
  • Rampant -  (of something bad) getting worse quickly and in an uncontrolled way
  • Curb - to control or limit something that is not wanted
  • Malpractice - improper, illegal, or negligent professional behaviour (doing something wrong in your work)
  • Reputation - the good opinion that people in general have about someone or something, based on past behaviour or character
  • Empowered - to have official authority or the freedom to do something
  • Baring - except if a particular thing happens
  • Teeth and claw - to work very hard to achieve / do something
  • Asserting -  to behave in a way that expresses your confidence, importance, or power and earns you respect from others
  • Vis-à-vis - in relation to / with regard to
  • Postponement - to delay an event and plan or decide that it should happen at a later date or time
  • Deferred - delayed until a later time
  • Remit - the area that a person or group of people in authority has responsibility for or control over
  • Unprecedented - never having happened or existed in the past
  • Calling off - to cancel
  • Maximalist - a person who holds extreme views and is not prepared to compromise (especially in politics)
  • Degree - an amount or level of something
  • Elsewhere - some other place
  • Pernicious - having a harmful effect
  • Inducements - money / gifts given to you to make you do something
  • Construed - to understand the meaning of something in a particular way
  • Not to mention - * used when you want to emphasize something that you are adding to a list
  • Drastic - serious and sudden
  • Ramifications - the possible results of an action
  • Reprimand - a formal expression of disapproval
  • Displeasure - a feeling of annoyance or disapproval
  • Convention - a way in which something is usually done
  • Propriety - correct moral behaviour or actions
  • Underlined - to show that something is very important or worth giving attention to
  • Cowed down - to do something in favor of somebody, because they frightned / warned you to do
  • Acquiesce - to unwillingly accept or agree to something
  • Commend - to formally praise someone or something

  • Deservedly - in the way that is deserved / rightfully
  • Ruined - destroyed or spoiled
  • Marshalled - assembled and arranged (a group of people) in order
  • Rousingly - making people feel excited and proud or ready to take action
  • Clinch - to finally get or win something
  • Skipper - the captain of a sports team
  • Cascade - to fall quickly and in large amounts
  • Context - point of view
  • Studded with - to cover with
  • Tally - a record or count of a number of things
  • Prolific - producing a great number or amount of something
  • Accolade - praise and approval
  • Bagged something - to accomplish or achieve something
  • Firm Imprint - strong mark
  • Contest - a competition
  • Anticipate - to imagine or expect that something will happen
  • Held centre stage - to be at the centre of attention
  • Tempo - the speed at which an event happens
  • Shepherded - to guide or direct in a particular direction
  • Threaded - to join together
  • Validating - to prove that something is correct
  • Blip -  something that is small or unimportant or that does not last a long time
