- Teachers Day is being observed across the country today (5th September).
- Important Points to Note :
- 5th September is celebrated as Teachers Day as a mark of respect to teachers and their contributions to the society.
- This day commemorates birth anniversary of former President Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a philosopher and a teacher par excellence, and his contribution towards Indian education system.
- He was honored with Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India, in 1954.
- This is his 125th Birth Day.
- Since 1962, his birthday is celebrated in India as Teachers' Day.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday released a Commemorative coin (Rs. 125) and a Circulation coin (Rs. 10) in honour of former President of India Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
- Janmashtami, the birthday of lord Krishna being celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety in different parts of the country today.
- Global Hindu-Buddhist conclave concludes today.
- 90 countries are participating in this Hindu- Buddhist conclave.
- PM Narendra Modi visiting Mahabodhi Temple at Bodh Gaya, Bihar.

- The Government today announced the One Rank One Pension scheme for the Ex-Servicemen.
- This was announced by the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
- Ex servicemen of same rank and same length of service will get uniform pension regardless of date of retirement.

- Haryana has bagged the Skoch Order-of-Merit national award for implementation of six e-Governance and IT initiatives in the state.
- The award will be presented to the state government during the 41st Skoch Summit - Transformative Governance, scheduled to be held on 22-23 September 2015 in New Delhi.

- ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL), the foreign arm of state-owned petroleum explorer Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), has recently announced that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire up to 15 per cent stake in CSJC Vankorneft, which owns Russia's second-largest oil and gas field, Vankor, in eastern Siberia.
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is going to issue Rs 5 coins to commemorate Golden jubilee of Indo-Pak War 1965.
- The new coin in the obverse will bear Lion Capital of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with Satyamev Jayate inscribed below it, the release said.
- On the reverse it will bear image of 'Amar Jawan' monument along with the design of olive leaves branch on its left and right sides at the center, with the inscription "veerata aur balidan" in Devnagri script on the left upper periphery and "VALOUR AND SACRIFICE" in English on the right upper periphery.
- The year "2015" is written below the image of the monument, it added.
- Also, "GOLDEN JUBILEE 1965 OPERATIONS" in English on the lower periphery will also be written on this face of the coin, RBI said further.
Deaths
- Music director Aadesh Shrivastava, who was in critical condition and undergoing treatment for cancer, passed away today.
- Aadesh, who rose to fame with his musical compositions for films like ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Baabul’, ‘Baghban’, ‘Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham…’ and ‘Rajneeti’ among others, also sang a number of songs including ‘Sona sona’, ‘Shava shava’, ‘Gustakhiyaan’ and ‘Gur nalon ishq mitha’.
- His last film was "Welcome Back (2015)"
- Former Goa CM Dr Wilfred de Souza passes away.
- Note : He was considered as Goa's only surgeon-cum-CM.

- Asian Boxing Championships 2015
- Indian Boxer Vikas Krishna reaches in the final of 75 kgs by defeating Iraq's Waheed Abdulridha.
- Other Indian Bxers Devandro(49 KG), Satish Kumar (91+KG)and Shiva Thapa(56KG) lost their semi finals and settled for bronze medals.
