Brief History of Name Changes of Cities in India
Renaming of cities in India started in 1947, following the end of the British imperial period in India, and continues today. Bombay became Mumbai in 1995 after a 40-year struggle; Madras changed to Chennai in 1996; Calcutta to Kolkata in 2001; Trivandrum to Thiruvananthapuram in 1991; Pondicherry to Puducherry in 2006; Poona to Pune in 2008; and Orissa to Odisha in 2011 and Bangalore is the latest city to have its name changed. The renaming of states and territories in India has also taken place, but until recently with actual substantial name changes in both local language and in English such as the old British state name of Travancore-Cochin to Kerala (1956). The most notable recent exceptions being Indian English spelling-changes of Orissa to Odisha (March 2011) and the Union Territory of Pondicherry (which includes the City of Pondicherry) to Puducherry.

IBPS PO Exam Experience
ReplyDeleteLadies and gentlemen, guys and gals.
I want to share with you my experience about bank PO exam which I gave last year and currently working as PO.
I have seen many of you getting worried about cut off and attempts. Let me make you clear it is not in your hand except giving your best.
Last time also the cut off was unexpectedly low. So, just keep moving without worrying.
One more thing is PO post can get you government officer tag but until or unless you have particular interest in banking I would suggest you to prepare for SSC. It is because I feel bank job is very hectic and risky. You will be surrounded with tensions most of the time. The lure of being a PO is now lost in banking.
It is not to demoralise anyone but to make everyone aware of the bitter truth of it. I myself being an honest officer getting it difficult to sustain there. God knows what's the future.
All the best. If you think you are made to bank, trust me you will love this job.
Thank you very much.
