Friends, here are some important details you should know about Ebola Outbreak. These details will be helpful for your upcoming IBPS RRB and RBI Assistants Online Exams. All the best.

Ebola is a rare and deadly disease caused by infection with one of the Ebola virus strains (Zaire, Sudan, Bundibugyo, or Tai Forest virus). Ebola viruses are found in several African countries. Ebola was discovered in 1976 near the Ebola River in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Since then, outbreaks have appeared sporadically in several African countries. Unfortunately, there isn’t really any way to treat Ebola.

More than 3,600 people in Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone have contracted Ebola since March, according to the World Health Organization, making this the biggest outbreak on record. More than 1,800 people have died.

Symptoms
First symptoms are fever, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat (generally, flu-like symptoms) followed by even worse symptoms, like vomiting, diarrhea, rash, and impaired kidney and liver function. Then (of course) there comes the internal and(slightly more traumatizing) external bleeding. In most cases, but not all, death follows shortly thereafter.

Important Points to Note
  • Started from Sudan in 1976 (asked in IBPS RRB CWE III held on 6th September 2014 - Morning shift)
  • Peter Piot co-discovered Ebola virus in Zaire (asked in IBPS RRB CWE III on 6th September - Evening shift)
  • The Ebola virus is named after the Ebola River, where the first outbreaks occurred in 1976.
  • The natural host of the Ebola virus is Fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family.
  • Ebola was first discovered in 1976, and it was once thought to originate in gorillas, because human outbreaks began after people ate gorilla meat.
  • Ebola is introduced into the human population through close contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected animals.
  • Incubation period: 2 to 21 days after infection.
  • Ebola kills 90% of its victims
  • Puts victim in lots of pain
  • There is no cure and the cause is unknown.
  • It can reproduce in 8 hours and when it does millions of new viruses come out.
  • It is a threat even though only 3 out-breaks have been reported. (so far)
  • It is the worlds most deadly viruses and one of the most painful deaths possible.
  • You can die any were from 3-30 days or even longer.
  • No licensed vaccine for EVD is available. Several vaccines are being tested, but none are available for clinical use.
  • Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) describes Ebola as "one of the world's most deadly diseases".
  • WHO (World Health Organization) provides expertise and documentation to support disease investigation and control.

  1. Ma'am yours is an awesome site for all the young aspirants. I find it not only encouraging but also a site that provides the best material needed by students, and that too in a manner that one can grasp easily. It is so free from all the show-off of many other sites. However, sometimes I find grammatical mistakes in the articles provided and I do not like to accept that it catches my eyes. Please do not take it as a satiric remark or negative criticism. My real respect for you hardworking admins, and I must say, mentors, make me express this dissatisfaction of mine. I am overwhelmed by the real concern shown by you for us, the aspirants. The mistake that is currently in my sight is the third line of the above article. May be I'm too critical. But this article is concerned with the grammatical aspects of English, and I could not hold myself. I'm very grateful for your guidance and materials and I am sure this site would never cease to help the candidates out of the delusions. I'll be looking forward to your guidance always.
    Regards.

  13. Bro. started means 'scientists predicted that spreading of virus has started from that place',mans some people of Sudan might have consumed 'Gorilla meat'(according to scientists) and paved the path for outbreak of this deadliest disease in human beings. But discovered means "clinically tested phenomenon"(which took place in surroundings of Ebola river(Zaire ,Democratic republic of Congo)in 1976 by "peter piot".

  18. Friends 'Z Mapp','TKM-Ebola','VSV-Ebove are the three drugs corresponding to Ebola.all three were designed and manufactured by some drug companies from Canada and funded by Public health agency of Canada&US (easy to remember). We know that our body have certain immunity(naturally) and also adaptive immunity.here in the case of Ebola,Human being's body is unable to combat with the virus instantly,so above mentioned three drugs contains neutralizing antibodies which give "Passive immunity"(try to stop the virus cells from doing damage to us further within a span of few days(Latent period)after this period without any medicine one person can survive(because by that time our body will have power to attack this virus, but Ebola is such deadliest as it even won't let any one to survive till that time),because In some diseases like Ebola the latent period is shorter than incubation period so A person can transmit infection without showing any signs of the disease. Such infection is called sub clinical infection, because of this WHO is unable to take serious action over this and deliberately delaying permission to utilize those drugs in wide range .
