National Affairs
  • West Bengal celebrates birth centenary of former CM & veteran Marxist leader Jyoti Basu today.
  • Rail Minister Sadananda Gowda to presented his maiden RailBudget2014 in Parliament today.
  • British Foreign Secretary William Hague and Chancellor of Exchequer George Osborne called on the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today.  
  • Defence Minister Arun Jaitley today ruled out release of the classified Henderson Brooks Report on the 1962 India-China war that is said to be openly critical of the Indian political and military structure of the time, saying its disclosure would not be in national interest.

  • India today successfully test-fired an advanced version of the 290-km range Brahmos supersonic cruise missile off the coast of Odisha, giving the country the capability to hit enemy targets hidden behind mountains or in a cluster of buildings with "pinpoint accuracy".
  • Scientists have identified the largest flying bird known to have ever lived  'Pelagornis sandersi', - an extinct giant with a wingspan of up to 24 foot, more than twice the size of the largest living flying bird.

International Affairs
  • US President Barack Obama and his French counterpart Francois Hollande today agreed to coordinate measures for imposing new sanctions on Russia if it fails to initiate prompt action towards deescalating conflict in Ukraine.
  • Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has asked people to support a recent decision to raise petrol prices, saying it is only with their participation that the government can accomplish the toughest tasks.
  • More sub-Saharan Africans are living in extreme poverty now than in 1990, said a major United Nations report on Monday, warning the region will miss most of its development goals.
  • India continues to battle poverty, child and maternal deaths, according to a United Nations report on the Millennium Development Goals that said while several key global targets have been met, more sustained effort is needed to cover disparities by the 2015 deadline.
  • China announced that the first meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Brazil next week will have "significant strategic importance" to bilateral ties.
  • France and the United States have urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to pressure pro-Moscow rebels in eastern Ukraine to agree a dialogue on reaching a ceasefire with Kiev.
  • Japan braced today for one of its worst storms in years as typhoon Neoguri barrelled towards the southern Okinawa island chain, with the national weather agency issuing its highest alert and nearly half-a-million people urged to take shelter.

  • Nation's largest oil explorer ONGC  today raised a whopping USD 2.214 billion -- the largest bond sale from the country -- through dual tranche money to fund its overseas arm OVL's Mozambique asset purchase.

      method: since percent is 100,

      =[81/100 * 2300] - [34/100 * 596] ,simplify it
      =[81*23] - [34/25 * 149]
      =1863 - 202.64
      =1660.36
