Syllabus of SBI Specialist Officers Exam 2014

Friends, in our last post we have discussed about the basic details you should know about the SBI Specialist Officers Recruitment exam 2014. Today we shall discuss about the syllabus. Ofcourse, as you know, the State Bank of India hasn't said a word about the syllabus... but based on previous papers, we made the following guidelines. Hope it helps in your preparation. SBI Specialist Officers Exam 2014 Syllabus

As you know, the exam consists of the sections Aptitude, Reasoning, English Language and Professional Knowledge. The difficulty level of apti, reasoning and English language sections is almost equal to that of SBI PO Exam's. So you can prepare SBI PO Previous papers for those sections.  For the professional knowledge section the questions are completely based on the post you have applied for. The difficulty level of these questions will be moderate. They will ask questions from your CORE SUBJECTS of your Graduation / Post Graduation. Now lets have a look at sectional wise syllabus of SBI Specialist Officers Exam 2014. 

Quantitative Aptitude : Keep in mind that the Data Interpretation is SBI's favorite section. You will get almost 40% questions from this area. For this section you have to focus more on Averages, Ratios and Proportions and Simplification (Note : Now a days they are making DI questions from the areas Probability, Time and Work, Simple and Compound Interest etc. too. So its better to have the basic idea in all the basic aptitude concepts). For data interpretation you have to pick the appropriate data in a single glance and you have to solve the given questions making use of it. So, you have to practice more on Bar Charts, Tables, Pie Charts. If possible try to avoid pen and paper for simple calculations while solving these problems so that you can save time. 

Apart from Data Interpretation, you can get questions from Numerical Ability (basic maths), ratios and proportions, averages, LCM and HCF, Ages, Time and Distance, Speed and Distance, Profit and Loss, Basic Mensuration. 

The difficulty level of Aptitude section is moderate. There will be no twisted questions. But you can expect time taking questions. You can solve only 15 - 20 questions with your normal mathematical skills and traditional methods. You have to work with simplification shortcut methods so that you can easily get good marks in this section (especially for DI).

Reasoning :  The reasoning section of SBI is little easier when compared to IBPS's. For last years SBI Specialist Officers' Exam which was held in the year 2012, they've mainly focused on Analytical Reasoning. So focus more on this area. Practice Classification, Input and Output, Seating Arrangement, Ranking, Coding - Decoding, Time Sequence,  Decision Making, Course of Action, Cause and Effect, Statements Conclusions and Statements Assumptions. Last time as they conducted online exam for the first time, the SBI hadn't asked questions from Non-Verbal Reasoning. So this time also you can expect the same pattern. But better to read the basics of non-verbal reasoning too (for worst case scenario) but don't waste much time on this section. 

English Language : For this section focus more on Vocabulary, Antonyms, Synonyms, Sentence Arrangement, Fill in the Blanks, Locating and Correcting the errors, Reading Comprehension. Learn basic grammar and try to improve your speed reading skills. 

Important Note : As we've already mentioned in our last post, the marks of above three sections wont be considered while  calculating your merit. So better don't waste too much time on these sections.

Professional Knowledge Section Syllabus 

This is the key section of the exam. Even a single mark will decide your fate. So you have to be well prepared for this section.

Systems Officer / IT Officer : The bank need an IT Professional to look after it's Software  and Server Maintenance issues. So it needs expertise in the areas like DBMS, Computer Networks and Basic Programing Languages. Last time they asked maximum number of questions from Data Base Management Systems (DBMS) so focus more on this subject. You should also prepare basic programming languages like C, C++, Java, Basic concepts of Software and Hardware, Data Structures, Computer Organization, Computer Networks, Network Programming, Algorithms, Digital Electronics, Web Technologies, Information Systems and Software Engineering etc.

Chartered Accountant :  You should focus on the basic areas of CA like Accounting Standards, Accounting Guidance Note, Financial Report Standards, Indian Accounting Standards, Corporate Financial Reporting, Accounting and Reporting of Financial Instrument, Share-based Payment, Liability Valuation, Share, Business valuation, Inflation Accounting, Indian Capital Market, Mutual Funds, Foreign Exchanges, Auditing etc.

Law Officer : The bank needs a law officer to deal with it's legal problems. So you should focus more on Banking Regulated Laws, Banking Security Laws, Negotiable Instruments, Ethics and Corporate Governance in Banking, Financial Analysis, Banking Operational Laws, Banker-Customer Relations, Electronic Banking, Loans and Advances, Compliance and Legal Aspects, Security Types and Regulatory Frameworks etc.

Statistician : Statisticians are concerned with the collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation of quantitative information. Being a Statistician the bank expects you to apply mathematical and statistical knowledge to collect and analyze various data, and interpret the results of experiments and surveys. For this profile you should prepare Basic Statistical Methods and Inference , Uni-Variate Data, Bi-Variate Data, Time series forecasting, Sampling Concepts, Sampling Distribution, Estimations Theory, Simple Regression, Multiple Regression, Variance Analysis, Banking-Insurance, Financial Market, Foreign Exchanges, Forecasting Portfolio etc.
