Friends, as the VRO / VRA and Panchayat Secretaries are approaching here are a few important points you should know about Andhra Pradesh. I hope these points will be helpful for you in your upcoming exams.

Andhra Pradesh is India's 4th largest state by area and 5th largest state by population. This is the first state in India formed on the basis of language. This state was formed based on "Gentlemen's agreement".

What is this Gentlemen's agreement ?
In the year 1956 people of all areas (kostal, rayalaseema and telangana) are agreed for the formation of the new state for Telugu speaking people. But the leaders of telangana raised some issues. They feared that the telangana may not be developed inspite of being the area of high revenue. So both the Telangana and Andhra leaders signed an agreement on 20th February 1956. This is called Gentlemen's agreement. The agreement provided safeguards with the purpose of preventing discrimination against Telangana by the government of Andhra Pradesh. Ofcourse later the alleged violations of this agreement are cited as one of the reasons for demands of separate statehood for Telangana (you people know the rest of the story).
