  • Nearly 15,000 police and soldiers will be deployed in the Thai capital next week for the planned "shutdown" of Bangkok by demonstrators trying to overthrow the government, officials said on Wednesday.

  • Fulfilling its promise made soon after coming into power, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi on Wednesday launched a helpline number (011-27357169) to deal with corruption and promised action within 24 hours of sting operation to expose graft.

  • The Reserve Bank of India has raised the cap on the proportion of loan to the value of gold, which may boost prospects of Muthoot Finance and Manappuram. Finance companies can lend as much as 75% of the value of the gold, up from 60% earlier.
  • Striking an optimistic note, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday pegged the country’s economic growth at five per cent for the financial year ending March 2014, while assuring investors India would re-emerge as an attractive investment destination soon.
