Shortnotes on Indian Premier League (IPL)

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a professional league for T20 cricket in India. The idea was initiated by its first chairman Lalit Modi. At present Rajiv Shukla is the chairman of IPL. First season was conducted in 2008. 4th season of IPL, in 2011, witnessed participation of maximum number of teams i.e. 10 teams with the addition of 2 new teams viz. Pune and Kochi (defunct now).

6th season of IPL which was started on 3rd April 2013 and has concluded Yesterday (26th May 2013). A total number of 9 teams participated in the current season. Sun Risers of Hyderabad is the new team in the current season. Following are the details of each season and winner.

IPL offers a total prize money of Rs. 25 crore of which, winning team will receive 10 crore and first runner up receives Rs.7.5 crore.

Orange and Purple cap

The Orange Cap is awarded to the batsman with the most cumulative runs to his name on each day of the season; he will have the honour of wearing that cap in the field.
Purple Cap is given to the bowler with most number of wickets in the league.
