  • Plenty - a large amount of something, or a large number of things or people
  • Devising - to invent a method of doing something
  • Sound - complete
  • Address - to give attention to or deal with a matter or problem
  • Severe - very serious and worrying
  • Fluctuation - frequent changes in the amount, value, or level of something
  • Boom and bust - a situation in which an economy or business regularly goes through periods of increased activity and success followed by periods of failure
  • Bumper - larger in amount than usual
  • Wholesale - relating to the business of selling large quantities of goods, especially to people who are going to sell them in a shop
  • Distressed - very unhappy, worried, or upset
  • Produce - food or any other substance or material that is grown or obtained through farming
  • Rot - to decay by a gradual natural process, or to make something decay in this way
  • Curiously - in an unusual and interesting way
  • Scarce - if something is scarce, there is not very much of it
  • Steep - sudden and very big
  • Cobweb phenomenon - in economics, fluctuations occurring in markets in which the quantity supplied by producers depends on prices in previous production periods
  • Glut - a supply of something that is much greater than can be sold or is needed or wanted
  • Populism - politics that represents the interests and opinions of ordinary people
  • Waiver - an agreement that you do not have to pay or obey something
  • In the long run - not immediately but at some time in the future
  • Fluctuation - frequent changes in the amount, value, or level of something
  • Over-regulate - to make too many laws and rules that control an activity, especially a type of business or industry
  • Robust - strong and successful
  • Forward-looking - looking at the future in a positive way and happy to try new ideas and methods
  • Fend for yourself -  to look after yourself without help from anyone else
  • Cartel - a group of people or companies who all agree to sell something at the same price so that they can all make profits without competing with one another
  • Ad hoc  - done only when needed for a specific purpose, without planning or preparation
  • Firefighting - the activity of trying to solve a serious problem that suddenly happens by reacting quickly and effectively
  • Spring - the season of the year between winter and summer
  • Reclaim -  to get something back that someone has taken from you
  • Austerity -  an economic policy by which a government reduces the amount of money it spends by a large amount
  • Protest - a strong complaint or disagreement
  • Commemoration - something intended to honour and remember an important person or event
  • Clamour - to make a loud complaint or demand
  • Consolidation - the action or process of combining a number of things into a single more effective or coherent whole
  • Fragile - easy to break or damage
  • Set off - to cause a situation or a series of events to happen
  • Activist - someone who takes part in activities that are intended to achieve political or social change, especially someone who is a member of an organization
  • Detain - to keep someone in a police station or prison and not allow them to leave
  • Unrest - angry or violent behaviour by people who are protesting against something
  • Stringent - stringent rules or conditions are strict and make you achieve high standards
  • Precondition - something that must happen or be done before something else can happen
  • Subsidy - an amount of money that the government or another organization pays to help to reduce the cost of a product or service
  • Fiscal deficit - a fiscal deficit occurs when a government's total expenditures exceed the revenue that it generates
  • Fuelling - to make something increase or become worse, especially something unpleasant
  • Persist - to continue to exist
  • Disparity - a difference between things
  • Quell - to cause a violent situation to end
  • Turmoil - a state of excitement or uncontrolled activity
  • Understandably - as is reasonable or expected
  • Uprising - a political situation in which a large group of people opposes and tries to defeat the government or a ruler
  • Authoritarian - controlling everything and forcing people to obey strict rules and laws
  • Backlash - a strong, negative, and often angry reaction to something that has happened, especially a political or social change
  • Hail - to say publicly how good or important someone or something is
  • Confining - to prevent something dangerous from spreading
  • Per se - considered by itself
  • Reform - a change that is intended to correct a situation that is wrong or unfair, or make a system work more effectively
  • Demonstrable - clear or obvious
  • Democratic - based on the principle that all people are equal and should be able to share in making decisions
  • Discontentment - a feeling of wanting better treatment or an improved situation
  • Apprehensive - slightly worried or nervous
  • Immunity - a situation in which someone is not affected by something such as a law because they have a special job or position
  • Amnesty - a situation in which a government agrees not to punish, or to no longer punish, people who have committed a particular crime
  • Allegedly - if someone allegedly does something, another person says that they have done it, even though this has not been proved
  • Oust - to remove someone from a position of power, especially in order to take that position
  • Dictator - someone who uses force to take and keep power in a country
  • Parliamentarian - a member of a parliament
  • Macroeconomic - relating to the economic system of a whole country or large region
  • Confronting - to deal with a difficult situation
  • Recipe - something which is likely to lead to a particular outcome
  • Chaos - a situation in which everything is confused and in a mess
  • Uncertainty - a nervous feeling that you have because you think bad things might happen
  • Migrant - someone who travels to another place or country in order to find work
  • Outflow - a movement of large numbers of people from one place to another
