"Newton" is India’s official entry for Oscars 2018

Amit Masurkar’s acclaimed Black Comedy film "Newton" has been selected as India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Film language category at the Oscars 2018.

Rajkummar Rao played the lead role as Newton Kumar in the film. This film was directed by Amit V. Masurkar and produced by Drishyam Films.

Newton revolves around an idealistic government clerk who tries his best to conduct free and fair voting in a Naxal-controlled town.

The film was picked from 26 entries. The selection committee of the Film Federation of India, one of the country’s major trade bodies, announced the decision today. The committee was headed by Telugu film producer CV Reddy (first member from the Telugu film industry to occupy the position).

The film had its world premiere in the Forum section of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival, and is set to have its North American premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.

The 90th Academy Awards (2018 Oscars), presented by Jimmy Kimmel, will take place on March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.
