  • Hydrocarbon - a chemical substance that contains only hydrogen and carbon, for example methane
  • Exploration - the activity of searching and finding out about something
  • Investor - a person or organization that invests money
  • Unveil - to announce something officially that was previously a secret
  • Acreage - an area of land, often measured in acres
  • Repository - a place where large quantities of things are stored or kept safe
  • Significant - very important
  • Discretion - the right or ability to make a judgment or decision
  • Address - to give attention to or deal with a matter or problem
  • Drawback - a feature of something that makes it less useful than it could be
  • Deem - to consider or judge something in a particular way
  • Prospective operator - people who are expected to operate something
  • Swathe - a large number of people, or a large amount of something
  • Cohesive - combining well to form a strong well-organized unit
  • Repository - a place where large quantities of things are stored or kept safe
  • Envisage - to have something as a plan or an intention
  • Open up - to create a new opportunity or possibility
  • Initiative - the ability to decide in an independent way what to do and when to do it
  • Incentivise - to give someone a reason for wanting to work hard
  • Designated - to say officially that a place or thing has a particular character or purpose
  • Infrequent - not happening very often, or not doing something very often
  • Auction - a public occasion when things are sold to the people who offer the most money for them
  • Accustom - to become familiar with new conditions
  • Concern - a feeling of worry about something, especially one that a lot of people have about an important issue
  • Acreage - an area of land, often measured in acres
  • By contrast - used when you are comparing two things or people and saying that the second one is very different from the first
  • Recompense - payment that you give to someone who has suffered injury or loss because of you
  • Appetite - a feeling of being very interested in something or of wanting it very much
  • Miracle - an event that cannot be explained according to the laws of nature and is considered to be an act of God
  • Conservation - the careful use of energy, water, and other resources, so that they are not wasted or lost
  • Vital - very important, necessary, or essential
  • Mangrove - a tropical tree that grows beside water and has roots that begin above the ground
  • Contiguous - next to each other, or joining each other
  • Ecosystem - all the plants and animals in a particular area, considered as a system with parts that depend on one another
  • Accelerated - faster than usual
  • Productive - making or growing things in large quantities
  • Colonial - relating to a system or period in which one country rules another
  • Era - a period of time that has a particular quality or character
  • Facilitate - to make it possible or easier for something to happen
  • Cultivation - the process of growing crops or plants
  • Emerging - just beginning to exist or be noticed
  • Threat - a situation or an activity that could cause harm or danger
  • Straddle - to be on both sides of something
  • Interface - a place where people or things meet each other, or a thing that connects them
  • Stark - used for describing an unpleasant fact or situation that is very obvious or impossible to avoid
  • Ecology - the study of the environment and the way that plants, animals, and humans live together and affect each other
  • Landscape - an area of land that is beautiful to look at or that has a particular type of appearance
  • Sediment - a layer of sand, stones, dirt etc that becomes a layer of rock
  • Confluence - a place where two rivers join
  • Salinity - a measure of the amount of salt dissolved in water, esp. sea water
  • Crucible - an environment that is very dangerous, difficult, or exciting
  • Biodiversity - the variety of different types of plant and animal life in a particular region

  • Sanctuary - a special area where animals live in a natural environment protected from people
  • Erosion - he process by which the surface of land or rock is gradually damaged by water, wind etc and begins to disappear
  • Fortification - the process of making something stronger
  • Dike - a wall that prevents a river, lake, or sea from flooding the land
  • Endemic - very common, or strongly established in a place or situation
  • Ecotourism - the business of organizing holidays to places of natural beauty in a way that helps local people and does not damage the environment
  • Preservation - the process of working to protect something valuable so that it is not damaged or destroyed
  • Synergistic - relating to the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.
  • Survival - the fact or state of continuing to live or exist, especially in difficult conditions
